It’s the question VCU Athletic Director Norwood Teague just can’t dodge.

Will football ever be brought to VCU, and if so, when?

Teague—a North Carolinia native who is in entering his fifth year at the university after a five-year stint as Associate Athletic Director at UNC—gets asked almost daily, and doesn’t think the questions are going to cease anytime soon.

“I get (questions about football) all the time,” said Teague. “If I’m out in the community, I’ll honestly get one every day. It could be joking, it’s not always; somebody asked me about it at lunch today.”

For years, thoughts of forming a football team have been merely a pipedream or passing fantasy to most at the university, yet to Teague it’s a turned into a task; one that is more of a marathon than a sprint and one with no finish line in sight.

Let the debate rage on for time 44646468464

I like this quote by Teague. "“If VCU wasn’t doing so well both academically and athletically, it wouldn’t be that big of a question,” said Teague. “It’s a question because over the last 15 years we’ve done so well and have become such a strong university.”

The first step should be to set up a questionnaire or committee to ask the students, staff and alumni what their support would be including worst case, the up front and annual cost just to have a FCS football team as a minimum. Those results will hopefully start or quell the quest for football. Personally, I want football, but not at the expense of our entire athletic program.

Football. VCU's question that won't quit showing up... in the wrong board index. Can we keep the football discussions under  VCU sports... please.

I agree. Atleast if we get the opinions of the VCU community ( students, staff, alumni, etc) we will know whether football would be a viable option... At this moment by not even addressing the communities opinions or asking for their opiion, its hardly fair to just keep the notion that "oh, we don't/won't have the support" attitude  ... IMO

Its apparently a wanna be VCU sport...wherever you want to put them General VCU/VCU sports/CAA these discussions don't belong in the VCU basketball forum IMO. Can someone create a general VCU football header and sticky that into whatever category the moderators feel is best instead of continually diluting the VCU basketball board with football discussions? :?:

Somebody get this guy a midol

I am just glad we are finally doing an actual study. I know it will be a stretch and it will be darn hard to pull off but with the right plan it can be possible. It will be interesting times when this study is being done. Also guessing we will have to count on the commonwealth times to keep us posted on it

While a questionably is good, a lot of people will say they would support football but when push comes to shove...would they?

We don't have the facilities. The Diamond is falling apart and the city can't get it's act together to even figure out what to do with that...since we share the facility with the squirrels for baseball.

What would be needed for city stadium for football. Would students and public show up for games that aren't actually held on/near campus?

A lot of issues

SGA already did a study polling students on the issue. Overall the students were for football at VCU...when asked if they would be willing to have an increase in student fees to fund the program, the answer was no.

DB, the students would more than likely vote no if the poll asked about helping fund the basketball program.

Time will tell though

Well, the fact remains that you're going to need student support to start a football program, and if they don't want to pay for it, it's not going to happen.

If there is a change of heart and they are willing to increase fees, it becomes much more realistic. As things stand now it's not the case.

We've had this same discussion at least 10 times though lol...

10 times? Probably atleast 30 lol and maybe 30 more

but seriously nobody will support it without a serious plan in place. If its just some poll on the myvcu website im not surprised it got shot down. We will need tons of student support and if the AD really thought they had a solid plan that could work I would suggest putting together a presentation at the STU invite students & Alumni try and woo them with the presentation then put the poll up and I bet the numbers would be alot different.

I will save the rest of my thoughts for the next football debate lol
