Went to the International League World Series in 1978. Braves beat Pawtucket I believe. Hammerin' Hank was there. His brother Tommie was the Braves manager. Got tickets a couple minutes before game time and couldn't believe how cheap the beer was.

Your post brought back a great (partial) memory!
Can’t remember the year right now but one of the finals we got seats down low low on the third base side. The last couple innings we were up, our guy was throwing serious heat and everyone knew he was untouchable. The crowd was wild and that ninth,,, Jeez it was loud, every pitch got louder and at the last out, mayhem!

In what way? Here's something you may not know ... rightfield was about 30 feet further than left ... that's because some football was played there into the late '70s and they needed 120 yards (with end zones), plus a bit more, stretching from near third-base dugout to deep right. Left-handed hitters referred to it as "Death Valley."
Having played in Parker Field, home runs weren't easy to come by to any field. Though I did enjoy watching our 1st baseman, Chuck Hiter, drive balls over the scoreboard in left center. Dude was a strong beast. And since your'e a history buff, its was also Hiter who hit a 2 run shot at JMU to lead VCU over the College World Series bound Dukes back in 1983.

As a baseball purist you are making the mistake of thinking that baseball is the product. The silly characters, overpriced food and drinks, garish artwork, giveaways and dumb games between the innings are the product. It doesn't sound like it is for you and that is ok but they know their target audience.
Yep, here in Tacoma, the best part is them letting the kids run the bases after the Rainiers games.

Trilly came out of nowhere this year but has been on the ball more often than not. Next month or so should be interesting on the realignment front.
