For Funsies: Conference Reallignment/Creation

With the way VCU Baseball won the A10 and the championships we have won in other sports, it is very obvious to me that VCU Athletics may be a step above most of the other universities in the conference. Maybe we have outgrown the A10.

Not considering the NIL, TV money, and political influences, which conference would be a good fit for our athletic teams other than basketball?

Besides basketball, I expect that the Big East is at the same level as the A10.

Interestingly, the Big East is not a very strong baseball conference. They are typically a 1- or 2-bid league, and not every team in the conference even has baseball (DePaul, Marquette, and Providence don't).

After basketball, the Big East's next best sport tends to be soccer (both men's and women's) followed by women's volleyball, which makes sense because every Big East school has those.

VCU remains one of the few in the a10 that funds full scholarships allowed in sports we participate in from what I remember the last time I saw a table on scholarships by sports for the a10

Ed does a good job identifying coaches for many of these sports - when we moved from the CAA to a10 it was recognized that for many non revenue sports the competition was a step down

I want VCU to have mens varsity Lax and women's softball and golf.
That would make me very happy (and no I do not have the money to make it happen).

I've always wanted VCU to have a softball team. Chesterfield County is building a softball facility on Iron Bridge Road, it's a drive but they could use that.

isn't there a softball field across the street from the Ashe Center.

What???!

First no swimming.

Now VCU doesn't have women's softball, lax??!!

Next you are going to tell me vcu doesn't have gymnastics and wrestling...

How can VCU be a flagship without women's softball and LAX??

That's like going to a hot dog vendor, buying a foot long and vendor says he/she has no mustard or relish...

Big East baseball is definitely better than A-10 baseball. Both St. John's and UConn made the NCAA tournament this year with 30+ wins. Creighton, Georgetown and Xavier also had 30+ wins. Xavier took 2 out of 3 from VCU this year, and had wins over LSU and Clemson. Creighton also had some nice wins against Nebraska (3 times), Stanford (twice) and Coastal Carolina (twice).

Regarding the Big East not fielding baseball teams for their members, may I remind you that in the A-10 Loyola, Duquesne and La Salle also do not field baseball teams.

Also, name me the last time the A-10 put more than one baseball team into the NCAA tournament.

La Salle does not field a team but is bringing the sport back in time for the 2026 season. I'd also be surprised if the A-10 even had an at large bid in the past 20 years.
