For Funsies: Conference Reallignment/Creation

I can't believe St. Mary's is going to hang around in the WCC. They have to be desperately looking for a new conference with Gonzaga gone and now Grand Canyon backing out.

The WCC is a conference of small private universities, many religious, who play in high school size gyms. Gonzaga with its 6,000 seat basketball arena is one of the largest in the WCC. Most of these schools rely on one sport and that is men's basketball. St Mary's in in a conference with like minded schools, which is where it should be.

It would only be good if VCU was among the teams added; catastrophic if not. And while I would take a BE bid in a heartbeat, the days of being one of the 2 dominating teams in our conference would be over. How would VCU fans feel if being 5th was a "good year?"
If 5th became the new norm, so to speak then it would become an issue.

You guys just HAVE to be the #1 choice of schools east of the Appalachians. So I could easily see an invitation when/if UConn moves on.

I am guessing that St. Louis would probably have the political advantage over Dayton if inviting one western achool -- read: Xavier and possibly Butler might heavily lobby against the Flyers due to proximity. SLU would also bridge the distance to Creighton.

Meanwhile, crossing fingers that rumors of the Pac 12 circling back with improved offers to USF, Tulane, Memphis, and (new) Wichita State. Especially with Gonzaga joining. Far fetched, I know, but a full East/Central división also including VCU, SLU, and Dayton would be very nice.

Who knows, if the Pac 12 makes offers to eastern time zone non-football schools, the Big East might react like Pitino endorsed.
Pitino's point in the big picture makes sense. I don't see why this cannot be accomplished.

You would think in the year 2024 that the Big East conference first and foremost would seek out a university that puts basketball, not religious affiliation, as its the main reason for membership. The Bid East needs more eyeballs on television and a large public university like VCU helps with those eyeballs. VCU being in the state of Virginia, new state for the conference,, with a over 8 million population, and a metropolitan area now ranked as the 44th largest I assume helps the Big East in television contracts. Lastly, having a great on campus arena of 7,500 with a soon 17,000 arena in Henrico County in which VCU can play brings a lot for Big East membership.

Apologies in advance if this is on other thread(s), but neat review of the Stu and your program ...

And since you guys might be disappointed in my omission of a 294th realignment idea and hope. Brainstorming on my ultimate wish. Prior to conference tournaments, crossovers only in mens hoops and football. Quads with travel partners on consecutive lines listed that could save even more travel time/expenses for the new PacLantic:
EAST
VCU
Temple
Dayton
South Florida
-----------
Wichita State
UTSA or Texas State
Tulane
Memphis

WEST
Colorado State
Utah State
San Diego State
Fresno State
-----------
Gonzaga
Washington State
Boise State
Oregon State

Voilà

I think it was @Natty that has mentioned black ceiling tiles at the Stu. We just created a new space for our podcast room and we are taking out the white ceiling tiles and installing black ones. Man oh man it is going to look incredible. I saw the plans.
