FORMER RAM HURLER DIPOTO NAMED INTERIM GENERAL MANAGER OF AZ

PHOENIX, Ariz. – Former Virginia Commonwealth University hurler and eight-year Major League Baseball veteran Jerry Dipoto was named interim general manager of the Arizona Diamondbacks on Thursday. The move comes after the struggling D-backs fired current GM Josh Byrnes and manager A.J. Hinch.

Dipoto, who starred at VCU from 1987-89, joined Arizona’s front office in 2006 and had served as the club’s vice president for player development over the past two seasons. He also spent time in Boston’s scouting department for two years (2003-04) and served as Colorado’s player personnel director in 2005.
