Former Recruits and Players

I find it curious that some are attacking Tobi's decision to take more money and go to Va Tech.

we have had 5 succcssive coaches that all took more money to leave VCU - and lots of players that took the money Ace, Kern, Watkins, Jalen D, Nunn - even Max until the Nova deal fell apart

just enjoy the team that VCU puts on the court - this one is awfully GOOD. no idea what next year looks like and who will be here (either players or coach)

go rams
I don’t think anyone on hear has attacked Tobi for making that decision. I’m just not wasting my time like the genius that is @Thirstin4Burston wishing that Tobi stayed and thinking that RO and Ed should have passed on Max and thrown money at Tobi. If anyone wanted to cause blindness, they could have watch the VT-BC game tonight.

The analytics guy didn't have anything to do with it. Was Rodman a math genius??? Did Justin Tillman have a degree in Data science?? It's not hard to figure out rebounding angles based on shot location.
The announcers at the GW game specifically called out that we have data on how often we score off offensive rebounds and the reason we send so many players to the offensive glass is this team's likelihood of cashing in those second chance opportunities. In other words, analyzing the data from our games has led directly to our emphasis on offensive rebounding, an emphasis that was clearly not there early in the season. I can assure you our analytics folks are earning their keep.

A number of posts suggest that PSU has backed out of the agreed upon H&H series with VCU. I have seen nothing to that effect. Do you folks have some factual info or is this just speculation? Must say surprised if PSU took the opt out option.
Only one Ive seen hinting at it is @AlienAiden

this is the "latest news" I could find

I guess nothing official other than MR didn't want Ace to have to go back to RVa?? Kick the can and wait?

Seems like it's trending to a buyout for me because
A-Rams whomped PSU last season 86-74
and
B-PSU Basketball is playing one of their most embarrassing seasons in recent memory...which is saying a lot  ...so what's MR/PSU's incentive to court MORE embarrassment??

In the big picture? A VCU/PSU Home and Home is about the 86th thing to worry about....

Thanks. Nothing official then about PSU H&H series. Given the moaning about this season’s nonconference schedule, I suggest that it is a fairly relevant issue since it gets us a power conference opponent. And, those are pretty hard for VCU to secure, as the scheduling stories go over the years.

"Power conference" opponents are the ones dragging us down currently.

If Rhoades is the only former coach to chicken out of the H&H with VCU it will tell me a lot. Frank Willy Wade, the snake himself, had the courage to bring LSU to the Stu after leaving like a thief in the night. Mike is too candy-assed to show up? Nah, doesn't sit right with me.

I don't care about the implications for PSU and them being dogpoop. It's about principles and being a man of your word. Are you telling me Mr. "strong-ass offer" has more integrity than Rhoades who preached nothing but doing it the right way and all that BS for six years?

BTW the LSU v VCU game was fire. The Stu hasn't been that hyped up since then. Shame that team ended 18-13.

If you care to rewatch it in its glory:

Whether it happens or not.... I have no idea. AA says he thinks its not happening, though nothing's official yet, but Idk why AA would feel so strongly bout that if he didn't have a reason to.

Here's the other thing I will say tho.... LSU did not have any former Rams on their team. I don't even remember if he had any of our recruits on that team, that were originally slated to come to VCU.

I feel like if he opts out of the series.... it's going to because he doesn't wanna subject Ace & Nick to a flood of boos by coming back to the STU. And then there's also B-Rozz who is an assistant on that roster, another long time former Ram.

Not that any of them would be the one fans direct their boos too..... but there would probably be some for sure.

Mike might not be the coach by the time the H&H is scheduled lol. Maybe the new one would want to do it?

Unless you are hiding it, I can't believe that you are not a head coach in the NBA or college.

So many teams are missing out.

He doesn't watch our games

It is impressive that he manages to top past dumb posts with fresh stupid takes. That has to take some effort. He is a generational poster.

Something that is often missed by people when talking about how teams use analytics, is how often they use it to measure the success of strategy X or Y, and then build future game plans around that data.

I could give 2 poops about playing Penn State. We already beat them once so they can just send us the buyout money.
