Former Recruits and Players

Yes that is true, believe in part it was due to Covid... but they coulda made it up if they wanted.
Pretty sure it was due to COVID and the abbreviated non-conference that the 20-21 season had. There wasn't any logistical way it would work.

🙄....and therein lies the irony.. our guards shoot so many contested, hand in your face, off balance, difficult 3 ptrs that our analytics guy and coaching staff need time to "strategize/future game" offensive rebounding ..all due to the fact WE HAVE NO POST GAME TO BALANCE OUT OUR OFFENSE.

You can simplify your approach a acquiring a decent big with a post game.

You kick inside to a physical wide body with at minimum a decent jump hook, forces the double team and kicks it out to wide open 3 pt shooter or someone
cutting to the basket for an easy layup...

better shot selection = more buckets on less effort and less need for offensive rebounding = higher offensive kenpom efficiency rating.

The strategy has been around since George Mikan..it's not Rocket or Data science folks.
We get more open looks from three in Odom offense then we have had since Shaka left

We need to “strategize future game offensive rebounding”???

You must have been dropped on your head as a baby

The rumor I heard was that LSU offered dates that they knew weren't going to work for VCU, as a way to back out of the return game. I have no idea how true that is, but it would have been easy to do in the COVID season.

Speaking of Penn State, anyone else remember the H&H we scheduled with them while Rhoades was still here? They, too, backed out of the second half of that one. I think that was during the COVID season, too.

The post up is no longer close to the most efficient shot in basketball. College ball is adapting to that reality kicking and screaming, but it's true. Purdue had a generational big who was unstoppable in the post last year who took them to the title game, and they got buried by a team that could defend every other spot on the floor and had shooting at every position. I know which model can be replicated at VCU.
Wrong..UCONN didn't play 5 out small ball..they played inside out.. They had a dominant 7'2 270 pound big who had game on both sides of the ball..the same was true in '23..

You can say the same thing for UNC team that won in '22. The NC state team that made a run with DJ Burns ..and Bama...and Gonzaga....Miami , Marquette were exceptions(until they got hammered by other p5 with a post game).

Again...you don't need Zach Edey..all you need is Noel Brown or Castro..or Haynes or Venning..dozen other bigs to keep keep power 5 defenses honest..

Bottom line..VCU is making the dance..this is about making a run.

I heard the same rumor regarding LSU.

Regarding Penn State, Rhoades backing out would be the second time Penn State was scheduled to play at VCU and backed out. Maybe Penn State would agree to play VCU at VCU after Coach Rhoades is back at Randolph Macon.

Time to get the commissioners involved. Aunt Bernie needs to get the B10 to trade us one Michigan State home game for the 2 Ped State home games they owe us!

I hated that we lost that game at Penn State on a buzzer beater at the time but now I am ok with the way it worked out. In the past 5 years Penn State beat VCU, VCU beat Penn State and Mike Rhoades lost both games.

Not sure where else to put this, but coaching changes is saying that VCU's former assistant coach Jeremy Ballard is likely done at FIU. If true, VCU great Joey Rodriguez would also be out of a job as he is an assistant coach there.
