Former Recruits and Players

Clary also accuses Rhoades of spreading false narratives that he improperly missed classes and was failing his classes. The suit says Clary missed classes due to a concussion he suffered in a game in January 2024 and that he had one excused incomplete videography assignment due to the symptoms of his concussion.

Clary claims that he received a low level of care for his concussion and Rhoades used the injury to “find ways to further punish Kanye.”

I believe him. He created his own narrative about VCU when he left and another to keep from honoring the series. Joe Rockhead is a phony.
I'm not really surprised. Ace is Rhoades's guy. Rhoades wanted Ace front and center even when Clary was outplaying him, and Rhoades really had no logical reason to bench Clary. When Clary cried foul, Rhoades and his staff (and Ace, who has that stereotypical alpha dog mentality) drove him off and eventually kicked him off the team.

While it's good fun to see blockhead have problems, this is a pretty dangerous precedent.
But not unexpected. A player who receives NIL money from one school and leaves that school seeking to transfer to another school for NIL money, but members of the prior school lie about the player's performance and such which reduces the player's value may have a cause of action.
The real problem for the defendant, in this case Rhoades, is that he will look bad to players he wants to "hire." Whether the allegations are true or not, the court of public opinion will weigh in. And if Clary has the "receipts" it will look very bad even if he is unsuccessful in his lawsuit. And of course Penn State has a history of dealing with allegations of crimes against one of their coaches. Rhoades isn't being charged with a crime, but Penn State expects him to run a clean program. This could get interesting.

Kat and I just wanna pass on our hopes that this too comes to pass and the road ahead for Mike and co lead to better things. Keep fighting.

I don't understand why he did not just use Clary as a two guard although Clary was not his guy so things went haywire. If PSU is not happy with Blockhead they could use this as cause to fire him. They gotta pay lawyers now along with that $500,000 to VCU because he is a chicken hawk.

I agree....as a teacher (which is in a very similar realm as coaching), I find it somewhat galling that a coach....who is in a clear position of power, would stoop so low as to punish/blackball/drive away/disparage any player under his care.....and yes, I use the term "care" on purpose.

Regardless of which/how much/how many NIL monies are involved...the job of the coach (or teacher) is to shepherd your charges through this gauntlet of life and sports. I mean....you DO wanna win, right Mike??? 'Cause Clary CLEARLY came to PSU with a quality D1 skillset. Now, if CLary is the problem?? You address it AND document it. Sure, you withhold PT..BUT....it has to be transparent and above board and with a clear goal in mind for him to work towards. A 'plan of improvement" is extremely common and widely accepted in most all forms of employment

Clary may or may not be gilding the lilly a bit with the lawsuit....the racial element seemed bogus (and was agreed by Clary to be dropped)....but something went on behind the scenes and it looks like MR was more concerned about HIS power and HIS control that he literally made choices that were detrimental to WINNING and, worse in my opinion, did not reflect someone who had a young man's greater good in mind.

There is clearly a lot going on here, and it stinks on both sides and an NIL lawsuit may set a dangerous/uncomfortable precedent....but part of this reflects on the NCAA's choices to NOT set up guardrails/checks and balances/ACTUAL contracts/union or collective bargaining that supports the employees (players)...yadda yadda yadda

I'm just glade he's gone AND that this isn't a VCU problem

Hopefully that check is in the VCU account soon. Will need that money once the portal starts jumping.

Yeah, Clary was a Shrewsberry recruit and probably expected to still be the starting point guard when Shrewsberry left and Rhoades came on. Problem is, Ace runs the show.
