I agree....as a teacher (which is in a very similar realm as coaching), I find it somewhat galling that a coach....who is in a clear position of power, would stoop so low as to punish/blackball/drive away/disparage any player under his care.....and yes, I use the term "care" on purpose.
Regardless of which/how much/how many NIL monies are involved...the job of the coach (or teacher) is to shepherd your charges through this gauntlet of life and sports. I mean....you DO wanna win, right Mike??? 'Cause Clary CLEARLY came to PSU with a quality D1 skillset. Now, if CLary is the problem?? You address it AND document it. Sure, you withhold PT..BUT....it has to be transparent and above board and with a clear goal in mind for him to work towards. A 'plan of improvement" is extremely common and widely accepted in most all forms of employment
Clary may or may not be gilding the lilly a bit with the lawsuit....the racial element seemed bogus (and was agreed by Clary to be dropped)....but something went on behind the scenes and it looks like MR was more concerned about HIS power and HIS control that he literally made choices that were detrimental to WINNING and, worse in my opinion, did not reflect someone who had a young man's greater good in mind.
There is clearly a lot going on here, and it stinks on both sides and an NIL lawsuit may set a dangerous/uncomfortable precedent....but part of this reflects on the NCAA's choices to NOT set up guardrails/checks and balances/ACTUAL contracts/union or collective bargaining that supports the employees (players)...yadda yadda yadda
I'm just glade he's gone AND that this isn't a VCU problem
