Former Recruits and Players

recruiting and player development are different
I'm well aware of that. Where did I say anything in regards to player development?

Again... as far as recruiting goes.... Capel & his staff are responsible for the greatest player in VCU history.... and you have him as the worst of the 6 coaches.

And while Shaka was the HC.... MR & Wade were on the staff & also helped recruit crucial players to VCU's success like Briante Weber, Treveon Graham, Reddic... etc. all before leaving & eventually returning to VCU & becoming a HC.

So are you giving Shaka all the credit for Weber, Graham, & others that were recruited while because he was the HC, even tho MR & WW were on the staff & helped recruit them as well? Or are you factoring that into your rankings as well?

Because Assistant coaches are just as vital in recruiting players, if not more so.

I never said anything about which coaches are the best at developing players.... thats a whole other discussion.

Head coaches still need to have a keen eye regarding who they hire as assistant coaches. It all starts with the head coach. When Will Wade left VCU, Shaka was responsible for finding his replacement. The same when Mike Rhoades left. Shaka went 26-9 and 26-10 his last two years at VCU without Wade and Rhoades on his staff.

I other news, I've removed myself from consideration as Mr. July in the next edition of the Chippendales calendar....

The cornucopia of riches is so great for VCU that we have to go back 20+ years and are still talking about coaches who are coaching today. I will say this...when Capel took over, it was a different era. I want you to think about 2002-2003...that roster cobbled together (in a time before the portal), JUCOs and program castoffs, Antoine Willie and his 70 year old knees, etc. I also want you to think of what we had to offer as an athletic department....its hard to compare the recruits Capel could get with the recruits that coaches could get post-Final Four. I feel like people just presume they all had the same resources and situations out of the gate.

They didn't even make the Big 10 Tournament. They were not being considered.
They were actually being considered for the College Basketball Crown. Penn State said no. Even though the tournament was purposefully designed to benefit Penn State's own conference.
