Former Recruits and Players

Had an opportunity to make a stop in Snow Hill, Maryland today to visit Sherron Mills grave and pay my respects to the former great Ram. He was always one of my favorite VCU players. His head stone has a nice photo of Sherron embedded framed in by two basketballs. Very fitting for Sherron given his love for the game. The location is Mt. Wesley Cemetery outside of Snow Hill, MD. He led Snow Hill HS team to a 26-0 season and state championship in 1989 scoring 47 points in the championship game. One of the best games in the State of Maryland history. RIP Sherron.

I actually started following Sherron (though it was harder in the pre-internet days) when I saw him listed as a top 100 player in Street and Smith and thought he was in the VCU geographical recruiting area and hoped we would sign him out of high school. When we didn't I moved on, then when we signed him as a transfer later my ears perked up and I remembered this guy is supposed to be really good.

Indeed he was really good. He was one of those tweener guys that had a lot of guard skills and a big and strong enough body to play under the basket. Get him the ball on the baseline from 12 or 15 feet and just put two points on the score board for VCU. I don't remember him shooting many threes, but mid range and in the post (especially if he had a smaller guy on him) he was very, very good.

I may stop by Mt. Wesley some time.

Sherron's recruitment out of high school was interesting. As I recall he committed to Oliver Purnell who was the head coach of Radford at the time. He ended up going to Chowan University, a JUCO at that time, coached by Bob Burke. I don't believe he played there however. VCU in those days had good connectivity to Chowan. He flourished at VCU. Just a great all-around talent.
As you stated he was a top 100 prospect coming out of Snow Hill High School.

interesting tidbit is Oliver Purnell grew up (Berlin Md) about 10-15 miles from Snow Hill high school (makes perfect sense Oliver recruiting him and having a great connection)

Looks as if Max and Jamir are on the same NBA Combine Team. Also, on their team former Dayton player who xfered to Kentucky Koby Brea.

I have been looking for the results of the athletic testing but haven’t found anything with these guys measurables yet.

They'll be here once the NBA gets around to populating the info:

I have poked around at several sites for info about the combine- rosters for scrimmage teams and dates and all, but cannot find scrimmage dates or the rosters. Any idea where these can be found?

The scrimmages are tomorrow and Thursday and are on ESPN2 and ESPN+ starting at 2:00pm but I don't know the full schedule.

Kind of odd that the NBA does not stream the skills testing or make schedules available.

Yeah I kinda thought the all inclusive one stop shop site for NBA combine info has so little info listed. We'll have off tomorrow most likely as the entire Atlantic Ocean is in the process of falling from the sky, so no mowing/cleanup stuff for us.. so I wanna check some of these games!

It looks like the data is starting to populate - nothing yet for Max or Jamir but I'd expect that to happen soon.
