Let me preface this by saying, Shaka Smart...I know you're reading this, so I want to start by saying I love you (as a coach). I'm going to name my next child after you, and hopefully it will be a girl, which will be that much more badass. Also, I know you're a Final 4 coach, and I am but a mere fan (although I would still like to direct my detractors to my thread calling for more zone defense last season), and I know I'm not there every day in practice with these kids, etc...

BUT!

There is NO F'ING WAY Reco McCarter is a ZERO minute talent. I get it, I haven't seen him play in practice...but I pray that this next line gets the 6'7 sophomore swing man at least 5 minutes in the next game (then 10 in the following game, 15 in the game after that, and who knows maybe even 20 somewhere down the line) .. .. .I believe in Reco McCarter.

I believe in Reco SOOO much, that I am going to make a new Reco McCarter avatar following the completion of this post.

Last night I watched guard after guard chuck up failing three pointers. Now, I enjoyed watching those things fall in last year's NCAA tournament, but I still think we need a guy who can get the easy basket, and Reco can soar.

Anyway, I've said my piece...and yes, I'm still drinking the Kool-Aid. Free Reco.

The name Shaka Shelton echoes of greatness. I sincerely hope this happens.

Once I realized that he didn't play, my thoughts went straight to the scholarship dilemma we have next year.

Hope I'm wrong, as he seems like a great kid and we all love watching him. I think you're right though, we need someone to attack the basket a little bit more.

Reco ain't goin nowhere!!!

In all seriousness I thought the same thing actually. In my opinion, I just don't believe a guy like Darius Theus (with all due respect to Theus), is 37 more minutes better than Reco. And I know they play different positions, but just going off two games without Skeen, Joey, J-Rod, and Brandon, offensively I think there's still some experimenting left to be done with our depth chart, and all be it in limited minutes, I've been impressed with Reco and think he deserves that shot (was craving more Treveon last night as well).

PS. Reco, if you're reading this...practice and play 10x harder, be the Rudy of the team...a but a 6'7 athletic Rudy who can jump out the gym. Coaches can't ignore that.

...not a bad idea

Some people are jumping way ahead here in my opinion. He's a redshirt freshman. That alone makes him transferring out unlikely. It shows that our staff thinks they can work with him and wants to work with him. He's got so much raw talent that it's worth working on even if it takes some time.

Just because he's not ready right now doesn't mean we're going to run him out of town. It just means he needs to grow in certain areas before he gets on the court. He has plenty of time and I'm sure the coaches and support staff are working hard with him to realize what is some pretty scary potential.

Fi08 and I were talking about this a lot last night and had discussed our own FRECO campaign (Free Reco).

Glad to know that others share our frustration

I'm not worried at all about Reco. He will get his minutes in due time, yesterday just wasn't the time for it.

Who was that highlight package against?

Didn't take long to start questioning a coach that took us to a Final Four

You have 18 days to have shirts made.

Some guys just show up as freshmen and make steady progress and others take a while to put it together and then explode once they do and of course some never make an impact. This is basically just a hunch, but I really think Reco will be the guy in the middle. Who knows when it will happen for him, but one day he is going to be unstoppable. I am sure the coaching staff will have him on the floor for the appropriate amount of mins the moment he is ready.
