See Page 4. VCU is planning a $4.4 Million Siegel Center renovation. Not sure of the details, but it's nice to see a dollar figure associated with the proposed renovation. Should be interesting to see how Athletics renovates the Rec Sports side now that students have Cary Street (and Rec Sports vacated Siegel).

In your dream of dreams, what kind of renovations would you like to see for the Siegel Center, as a whole (feasible, realistic ones)? What type of small projects would you like to see that you hope to see as a part of the planned renovation?

I would love to see a grand entrance and an expansion of the VCU Hall of Fame (hate to say it, but as simple as ODU's would be nice with wood cases, memorabilia, etc.).

PS - Have you all toured Cary Street Gym? MAKE IT ONE OF YOUR PRIORITIES - you won't believe your eyes (some of you older Rams may shed a tear.... ....)

If I picked one thing it would be the trophies in the hallway like ODU..shows the history of the program to first timers and recruits

A lot of this renovations will probably be since Siegel will be completely for Athletes since Rec Sports has moved out. I could see some other construction, but I would expect it to be renovating the work out areas for athletes to use.

I am more interested in the construction of a baseball facility. Would this go along with what the Flying Squirrels are going to do or is this going to be a completely new facility altogether?

Haha doesn't seem to help ODU very much as far as recruiting...we regularly outrecruit them under the Blaine era. They still get guys nobody knows while school like us and Mason get the more high-profile recruits. I assume the bulk of these renovations are probably to the former gym facilities converting them into office space or perhaps a practice facility for when the Franklin Street gym is torn down in a couple of years.

 well it would only go so far but I do think it would be cool and show folks that the VCU basketball tradition goes past the last 5-6 years

Interesting....... Construct Baseball Facility New Construction 3.0M

Anyone have an idea what this means? Is VCU help fund/build the Diamond or did we finally find a place around campus we can call OURS?

4.4 Million?? IMO, most likely for new side walks and a little renoviations inside. There will be no box seating yet...

100% of the renovations are for Athletics. Rec Sports moving out made the building dedicated for Athletics only. That's the purpose of the renovation.

I just hope they carve new office suites out of the Rec Sports side, making room for future arena improvements/expansion.

Saw some of the office renovations yesterday...very sharp.

this. As a student I can say it is awesome. I live alot close to siegel but cary is just so nice now. Something like 175 pieces of exercise equipment. If u combine cary's treadmills (41) and mcv's (20) supposedly we have more than any other school in the nation...

Interesting. Education has now become country club living. No wonder tuition and fees keep going up. When I was a student many years ago, we had only a small dingy gymn. No exercise equipment, hot tubs, climbing walls, personal trainers. Have we gotten away from the true objective of higher education?

Gotten away from high education?

No, we are still a great university!!

Gotten away from higher education at an affordable cost?

Yes. A resounding yes.

I don't think we are making VCU a country club! By strengthening recreational sports facilities on campus, we keep our students on campus (i.e. safer) and HAPPY. It offers students positive things to do with their time away from school/studying. For a large number of VCU students, exercise is a big part of their student work/life balance (per the rec sports survey). The facility was built specifically for VCU students, so it's exactly what they wanted.

Also, Rec Sports is an auxiliary unit of the university, similar to Athletics. They are revenue generators, so don't think they didn't contribute $$ to this project.... :D

PS - Don't be "jealous" MIke ;) If you are an alum, you can join VCU Rec Sports. And trust me, Rec Sports' bells and whistles do not account for the T&F increases.....have you been paying attention to the economy, and the major cuts we've had here at VCU? T&F increases are I'm sure the last thing VCU wants to do, but what else are you going to do when you're state funding dwindles (even with rising enrollment)?

Believe me. The library is under utilized and the commons is over utilized. So Reaper, recreational sports are what the students want.... Are they also asking for an expansion of the library or a new academic building?
