Hello Ram Nation,

I have spent the last month thinking of all of the possible options for the starting line-ups for game 1. Needless to say, I have been scratching my head thinking about this one. We have so much depth and outside of Larry at center coach smart could go with a number of line-ups. I am just wandering what you guys are guessing will be our starters for game 1?

Mine are:

Sanders, C
Saintil, PF
Burgess, SF
Gavin, SG
Rodriguez, PG

I would love to hear what everyone else is thinking for game 1 starters.

For the most part, I agree. The only exception is that I have KP starting at the 4.

Thanks man, I would like to see K.P. be a big contributor. I'm kind of more hoping with Saintil that he will step up his game big time this year. The guy is a freak who can jump out of the gym. Kind of just hoping that he steps up as a solid defender and low post present who can play opposite of Sanders. Just thinking of how good they good both be playing off of each other.

Yup. KP definitely starts. You don't leave a 6'8, 265 banger on the bench. We need him to protect Larry. Big T will be the first off the bench when the starters need a breather (along with TJ in select situations).

OK- this is like the 3rd time we've done this now, over the last couple of months.... But it's still fun! So here goes my starting lineup:

Ditto.

1- J-Rod
2- J-Gav
3- B-Rad
4- T-Saint (Skeen as soon as he becomes eligible)
5- The Land-Lord

I see it the same way, although I believe KP will probably get the nod at the 4. Personally, I'd have Skeen and the Saint at the 4, and The Land-Lord and KP-11 manning the pivot. That's the best way to handle the foul situaiton, and I believe we will ultimately need all 10 fouls at the 5 spot.

The first 4 guys off the bench will be Rozzell, Gwynn, KP, and Saintil. Then Nixon & Theus/Grayson

That's how I have it right now. But who knows what will transpire over the next 6 weeks. It's gonna be a blast!! Lots of things to watch for this year- as usual.

Hard to say, with so many new players most of us have never seen play, but I trust Smart to put the best men on the floor. Personally, I gotta go with:

1) Rodriguez
2) Theus
3) Burgess
4) Pischalnikov
5) Sanders

Where do you guys think Troy Daniels will come into play? I saw that he is a three star recruit out of the Roanoke area. Does anyone know anything significant about his potential? I'm hoping that he can a solid contributor from the outside, however I don't know much about his game.

No Gavin starting? I dunno bout that. Theus will earn his playing time, doubt he starts from the get-go. Theus will be playing the point more than the 2 guard. Troy Daniels would play the 2 before Theus.

I had to change it up from everyone else's predictions, don't wanna just cut and paste the same line-up from everyone else. Also, it's all fun and games at this point anyway, I could put Maynor at the 1 and Wil Fameni at the 5 and my prediction would make no difference once play starts. I know Theus is more of a PG than a SG but he also shoots almost 40% from trey-land according to ESPN.

I respect that. I think that Theus has a very real shot at starting, and soon. It all depends on how Joey responds to having to run the offense. Theus is very steady, I just think if he starts, it's gonna be at the point guard spot. I just don't think Shaka is gonna feed him to the wolves too early. Grayson is also very capable at the 1, just still a little over-eager and over-committing when pentrating inside.

I've said it before and I still believe it: the only way any of the new freshmen will start is due to injury or some other unforseen situation. Look at the experienced backcourt guys ahead of them: three juniors (JRod, Rozz and Nixon) and one third-year sophomore (Gavin). Those are the guys we should want eating up most of the minutes, at least early in the season.

There are backup minutes to be had at the PG spot, but it's not like we signed John Wall or Eric Bledsoe -- the freshmen will, as most CAA freshmen do, need some time to get adjusted to the speed and intensity of D-I hoops. The physicality of the game is just hugely different.

I like Sanders, KP, Brad, Gavin and JRod for my starting 5, with Skeen starting at the 4 when he's eligible. I also agree with an earlier poster that KP should then move to back up Larry and use his five fouls to help Larry stay out of foul trouble.

start of the year
J-Rod, Gavin, Brad, KP, Larry is the likely lineup

i think come end of semester when skeen is eligible

Theus - J-Rod
Gavin - Daniels
Brad - Nixon
Skeen - Saintil
Larry - KP

PG - Joey
SG - Jay
SF - Bradford
PF - KP
C - Larry

That's what I imagine it WILL be...although I wouldn't be surprised to see Brandon starting at the point...or Theus for that matter

If you remember the Ram Nation interview Coach Smart, he was highly complimentary of Brandon Rozzell and said he has a ton of potential. That could translate into a starting position perhaps. Bringing a sharp-shooter like Gavin off the bench would be a luxury that few teams can afford. Tons of combos that can happen. That's why were not the coaches. I'm confident Coach Smart will find the right combination on the floor. Full practice starts in two weeks...lots of work to do.
