Dino Gaudio has been relieved of his duties as the men's basketball coach at Wake Forest.
The university has scheduled a press conference for 4:30 Wednesday at BB&T Field's Deacon Tower to make the official announcement.
A person close to the program said that Gaudio will not be given the final four years on his contract, which was extended before the start of the 2009-10 season. Although Gaudio is 61-31 overall in three seasons and has coached the Deacons to the NCAA Tournament the past two years, Athletics Director Ron Wellman is not satisfied with the way the Deacons have closed the past two seasons.

They want Shaka.

he doesn't have the connections there that he does at Clemson... but it may mean that Wake takes somebody else away that Clemson might have wanted... like Greg Marshal.. and then the Tigers go to their next choice

more big dogs at the food bowl, more chances to get bit

I'm pretty sure he didnt want to be in Clemson, I dont think I would.

Capel for his ACC connections...Brad Stevens if they could pay him enough to leave Butler cause he could certainly recruit at Wake.

I dont know. You fire someone with 4 years left on their contract. But Brad Stevens might be the man.

my guess says from what i know of the Wake leadership they have the guy they want and wouldnt have fired Gaudio without a good sense that person would take the job. Gaudio himself is probably the victim of late season fades after huge starts to both years. wonder what this potentially does for the wake recruits

Telep has a tweet-quote saying exactly that... also mentioned the Wojick to Boise St move as writing on the wall in hindsight

Wake Forest did not disclose Gaudio's salary or any other details of the contract, as is customary at the small, private school. But Wellman acknowledged that "there is a buyout clause in the contract and that will be honored, most definitely."

Sheesh what type of contract was that...you fire the guy and still expect another school to pay a buyout?

no, they (Wake) will have to pay Gaudio according to whatever the clause said... Wake is buying out the coach that they fired

if I heard it correctly..one donor bought out the contract....thats pretty serious...also Norwood and Shaka both said it wasnt a surprise in the coaching circle...3 asst coaches had left the program over the last year to take "lesser" jobs

Wow, it is amazing how much money the bigger schools are able to throw around to get rid of coaches and we can barely afford to keep our guys. I guess we might not find out in this case but I wonder what the buyout was. Not the brightest move to give him a 4 year extension one season and then fire him the next.
