This, according to Andy Katz at ESPN...

Mason has now won nine straight games and is the clear favorite in the Colonial over VCU, ODU and Hofstra.

I get that they have won 9 straight and just beat ODU, but they are 19-5, 11-2. We are 19-6, 11-2. We beat ODU at THEIR place - - Mason did not. We beat UCLA, who is 2nd in the Pac-10 - - while GMU's best OOC win is against Harvard. How exactly are they the CLEAR favorites? They are among the favorites, and maybe even the favorite. I can buy that. But to say they are the CLEAR favorite...well, that discounts VCU and ODU a bit too much (especially on a neutral court). The GMU/ODU game was close until the last 1/4 of the game when ODU couldn't make an open layup.

Methinks Andy spoke a little too soon.

Good point. Mason is on a 9 game winning streak and we have won 10 of our last 11. Mason may not have any great impressive wins but they don't have any really bad unimpressive losses. Guess we'll find out when they come to the Stu. Should be a good one. We got 2 more important games before them though

I think it is also how they are winning. If you see most of their wins in the CAA they are killing people.

Mason's RPI is 23. Ours is 53.

Mason's AdjO is 28. Ours is 56.

Mason's AdjD is 39. Ours is 137.

Mason's KenPom is 25. Ours is 84.

Mason's scoring margin is a preposterous 12.6. Ours is 6.1.

They are getting it done at both ends of the floor!!

Mason deserves the accolades it's receiving. They have been dominant. They should be the favorite. Clear favorite? As you say, debatable, but certainly plausible. They will almost certainly finish 16-2 or 15-3 in conference (1st or 2nd).

Maybe we can revisit this in 9 days if...........

George Mason....the team to beat up their hotel rooms

I think they have to stay at Super 8 for the CAA tourney this year

GMU is the team to beat.

Pay no attention to us. Nothing to see here. Move along. ;)

Like i said i am a die hard VCU fan but i have to go with Moz. Scoring margin and RPI is what i think puts them ahead. They should be favs based on how they are handling CAA teams but like stated before not clear favs until we play them. If they can beat us at home then i would def. put them as clear favs.

I agree with you, but guys like this always make bold predictions and hope they come true. We'll find out who is the team to beat in a little over a week.

Also, their games left in the conference are a lot easier than what we face.

Their game on 2/15 is tougher than any game we will face the rest of the year.

DELAWARE IS THE TEAM TO BEAT!!!

GMU does have a nice road win at Dusquene (sp?) from the A-10. They are good. So are we. Katz wants to be bold, that is what he thinks keeps him on the air, making the bold prediction and being the expert. An expert can not say well it is either GMU or VCU in the CAA, he should know. The fact that when he is wrong is never ever brought up again is another story.
We play better in the roll of underdog
We have them at home
We should not need motivation from an outside source for this game, it will be for first place in the CAA and hopefully for the Regular season championship. (as long as we beat Del) yeah I know....Drex and ODU but...
