6-4 guard Mi’kyel Nero from Brunswick Community College in Supply, N.C. Nero played one year at Brunswick, averaging 10.8 points, 4.8 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game. He will have three years of eligibility at Georgia State.

As a senior at Huguenot High in Richmond, Va., in 2008, he averaged 13.4 points per game and earned all-Dominion District honors.

They've had some luck in recent years recruiting out of Richmond area high schools i.e. Deven Dickerson out of Henrico High School.

That's when they had the Michael Perry connection.

yeah and dickerson worked out real well for them

Dickerson was plagued with injury problems for much of his career, but I know that we would have loved to have him at VCU. He was a solid big man for the CAA level when he was healthy.

It did a number on his knees though.

all you had to do was look at his dad standing next to the band and could have guessed the growth spurt was still coming! heck, i think his dad is still taller than him!

I still think he would have earned a scholarship at VCU eventually, and been a solid contributor. Unfortunately, he did not want to go the walk-on route, and accepted the scholarship to GSU, rather than pulling a Jesse Pellot-Rosa and staying home to earn a scholarship. In the end, he did "grow up" to be a very solid CAA big man. I believe we signed Kevin Moore with the scholarship that could have been Devon's. Both had similar skill sets and injury problems, but Kevin became a great locker room leader and back up to big Troy.
