So, it's official, Joey is out. Too bad.

But, unfortunately, there is little time to grieve, yet another, VCU loss. So, with a semi-recruit in Ben Eblen, and two scholarships now open. Who are you looking at?

I don't feel comfortable with one of our returning guys leading the point. The are all fantastic at their respective positions on the floor. But, guys like Cam Long will eat them up as a leading PG. I have confidence in Smart and his ever growing staff, but how much is the clock ticking on recruiting and at whom are we looking?

I am starting to feel better about the situation at the point as opposed to this time a week ago. Hopefully a few more things will fall into place over the next week. If we can get G.J. Vilarino to come on board and Ben to stay I would be very excited about the way Coach Smart has taken care of the point.

Agree. G.J. was probably in over his head going to Kentucky but he's more than capable of playing in the CAA. He's a better 3 point shooter than Eblen, so that gives us some balance.

So since we have the boards to ourselves now... Do you have any sources that you can divulge about GJ, DB?

That is good news. With Eric and Joey gone we need some guys that can hit the 3. Bradford seemed to have it down last year, hopefully there will be no sophomore slump from 3. It would be nice to see Brandon step up his 3 over the off season the way Joey did this past year. Aside from that I am ready for us to get back to lock down 3 pt defence. If you look at the box scores from our losses last year Larry's foul trouble was an issue, but our opponents making a high % of their 3's was as well. ECU, OK, UD, and UNCW seem to stick out.

Can't really divulge any sources. I was told that G.J. really likes VCU a lot and that the source thought that he would commit to the Rams. Apparently he visited on Friday.

DB, I would personally like to thank you for all your insight. Glad to see you like the site too. Thanks everyone, we love having you!

Hey no problem! I just figured for all the work you do, this is the least that we can do for you. I'm sure you guys will get more hits on the site and more people will come to see the great work you all do. 8-)

God, UNC-W just about had me in tears, I could barely watch the end of that game! And Crocker just blazed us at Oklahoma, hopefully if he's around for our game next season we can concentrate on keeping him off the 3 line a little better. That said, While Larry's foul trouble did cause a slight problem for us, I didn't feel he deserved quite a few of them. Maybe next season the officials will just let these guys play a little more. In the Big East, Larry's foul problems would be all but eliminated. To say I was frustrated at the Northeastern game is a huge understatement.

The funny thing is the year before we were 1st in the country in 3-pt defense. The only difference? Jamal Shuler.

As for Larry, he deserved a lot of the fouls he was called for. He went over the back a lot. However, I noticed on some occasions that he was called for it when it was not the case. His long reach allows him to grab boards from behind without touching the other players. I think ref's just can't believe that's possible and call it out of their reflexes. Either way, Larry's gotta be smarter about fouling. The difference when he was in the game and when he was on the bench was STARK. No game was clearer than the UCLA one. If he stayed out of foul trouble, we would have won that game. No question.
