Getting over the hump

Listening to the announcers tonight, it was sickening to hear them talk about how it was almost like a privilege that VCU got to play a "Big time Program" like Tennessee. We have had so many close loses in the last couple of years to big programs where victories would have meant so much to our basketball team. The only ones who remember these losses are the hardcore fans like ourselves. This victory would have meant so much more for VCU basketball then it would ever mean for Tennessee basketball. I don't want to have a close loss, I want to win this game. We can win and we need to use this game as motivation.
On a positive note, many of us, including myself thought we would win this game. We are no longer thinking of ourselves as a team that will pull up a lucky three at the buzzer to pull off an upset but rather a team that can go neck and neck with a ranked opponent.
I say use this game as a building block. I still feel that this Ram team is probably one of the best teams to ever put on a VCU uniform. We played on the big stage now and so everything after this will seem small. The next game, most likely against UCLA is a must win. Show them what VCU can do. Lead the way Joey.

We want to but we cant win them all. I think we have a great shot of getting wins against an ACC and Pac-10 team this tournament. We have to win. That is the VCU way!

As I am sure you know we are now 1-7 against top 25 teams in recent history. And while I realize "we can't win them all" can't we win a few?

I wouldn't say we need to get over a hump. We shot poorly last night and still had a decent chance to hang in with a top 25 program. The fact of the matter is we just haven't had a ton of chances vs. top 25 teams. If we would schedule 1 or 2 a year (Home, road, or neutral), the team would get used to playing these programs. Sure, last night we looked a little "our of our element" in the first 10 minutes of the game, but the truth of the matter is we don't have games like this every week and our team has a number of underclassmen.

These big programs are afraid to schedule/play us which is a very good sign. And I've already beat this to death in another thread, but that win over Oklahoma last year really didn't do much if anything for us in the post-season. Do we wanna play well or are we just looking for scalps from big teams for bragging rights (it doesn't get you much else if you can't hold it down in conference play).
