GJ Vilarino

Rivals had an article this weekend mentioning his family plans to relocate wherever he ends up playing. Also seems like his father is the one always quoted in the recruiting updates versus his high school or AAU coach. Any concerns about the family becoming a little too involved?

Not really all that concerned about this kind of stuff, its his kid and I am sure the dad is acting as an "agent" for his kid if anything. I can see how the article may make it sound like it could pose a potential problem because sometime the over-involved parent role does backfire. But I trust the staff will do the right thing and, G.J and his family will become Rams and do what is best for the TEAM!

i don't care about family as long as he commits to VCU, who knows maybe it may help some of the other guys here. The Rozell's have really helped out in that regard

Here's to hoping Vilarino comes to PGU! 8-)

You indicated a few days ago that our chances were very good for landing this guy. Any updates?

He's very high on VCU. He has a bunch of visits scheduled and should make a decision by next week hopefully. He likes VCU a lot. People close to the situation said they thought he would commit to the Rams. Seeings as he has just trimmed his schools to his final five, I doubt that's the case. His final five schools are Cincinnati, Georgia, VCU, Gonzaga, and Oregon.

I may have missed it on another thread, but what do his initials stand for? G.J. just doesn't quite roll off the tongue very well for me...just curious

Actually I'm not sure. His father's name is Gerry. Perhaps that's what the G stands for.

maybe Gerry Jr.? If so, I can just picture the SC sounding like an episode of the Jerry Springer show

Hey guys, as a Kentucky fan and somewhat of an insider, I can tell you with certainty that Vilarino would be an absolutely outstanding recruit for VCU and the CAA. He would be the top recruit in the conference this year and step right in where Maynor left off. He is one of the best athletes I've ever seen. The guy is lightning quick, and can run probably a 4.3-4.4 40 yard dash, with a 40+ inch vertical leap. He was often criticized as not being good enough for Kentucky, but a lot of that was to just to do with playing on a bad AAU team and having some poor showings. He has an unbelievable work ethic and comes from a great family. His father Gerry Sr. is one of the nicest, most knowledgable parents you will ever meet. I was very upset when he left Kentucky, and will be equally as upset if he goes to VCU (because I am a JMU fan), because the kid is going to be that good.

JMU/Kentucky fan from the Zone. Sounds like he's seen a bit of him and is terrified of the prospect of him coming to VCU. 8-)

Well, when will we know something official? I can't wait any longer. Sounds like he still has a few visits to make elsewhere. Once we can lock in Vilarino and/or Eblen, I will be able to sleep better at night.

When I know, you'll know.
