GJ Vilarino

Not only do we offer the potential to be a 4 year starter....but assuming Larry leaves for the NBA next season, we will have sent two 1st rounders to the NBA in back to back years. So you don't have to go to the usual suspects to be a potential lottery pick. heck, one of the biggest stars in college hoops over the past two years played for tiny Davidson College... you can have a great career outside of the BCS.

i don't have access to some of these insider websites, so if someone would be so kind, is there any way to post some quotes from the articles that link this kid with the rams? i haven't been able to track down anything that makes it seem vcu is in serious contention for him. not saying they aren't, just that i haven't seen anything. thx in advance for any links.

From Rivals:

BearcatLair caught up with GJ's father Gerry Vilarino for an update on his son's recruitment.

"Right now the top five schools we are looking at, it in no particular order, are Gonzaga, VCU, Cincinnati, Georgia and Oregon. My son has four official visits left and will probably visit Gonzaga, VCU and Cincinnati and possibly one more".

At the moment, GJ lists the Bearcats, as well as Georgia, Gonzaga, VCU and Oregon in his final five, covering all points of the country. "Distance from home won't be a factor because wherever GJ ends up we are moving there. "

"(His recruitment) is going to come down to his comfort at the school, where he fits in with the players and coaching staff. Things are still very open and we are looking for the best fit where he can play and develop," said Vilarino.

From Scout on 4/7/09

Expected to come this week to see Vilarino are Florida State, Oklahoma, VCU, Cincinnati, Oregon, Utah State and Georgia. Others will certainly be in the gym as well. “There’s a laundry list of schools and we want to cut it to five by Friday,” Gerry Vilarino said.

Sounds like we need to sell the city of Richmond as well as the school.

Anyone know what the father does for a living? Can we gain an advantage there (meaning would the city offer an advantage over others) ?

Don't know what his father does, but be careful crossing the line from "selling the city" to "setting his father up with a job."

Yeah we don't want to go there.

I did hear somewhere that we could get the second coming of Larry Bird if we buy his father a new John Deere.

Leave that up to Calipari and Kentucky. If anybody could play the coach in the sequel to Blue Chips, it would be Calipari. How easily Kentucky forgot about UMass. I didn't expect any better frm Memphis.
