Anyone see the comparison thread on the zone? It's insane how similar the runs are so far.

since you didn't quote what was said,

VCU is looking just like the 06 Mason team that went to the Final 4.

- Controversial At-Large team
- #11 seed
- Upsets #6 and #3 seeds
- Facing a #10 seed in the Sweet 16 after #10 upset #2

That is scary though.

Maybe history really will repeat itself.

I thought I read somewhere that this was the first time a #10 was playing a #11 in the sweet 16.....no?

I hope so. The biggests differences between the two are the margins of victory so far. Mason 2006 were much closer games compared to what VCU is doing now. Hope to keep this ride going.

The records of our opponents and the way our opponents got that seed(conference tourney losses) are the same. Is UF still in the tourney?

Ohio State is the overwhelming favorite to win the tournament. If we beat FSU and Kansas wins, and somehow Ohio State goes down, KU will probably be the favorite to win.

Here it is all put together by Philcski over on the zone,

In 2006, George Mason traveled to Wichita State for the Bracket Buster and won a tight, hard fought game on national TV, which certainly elevated their profile.
In 2011, VCU traveled to Wichita State for the Bracket Buster and won a tight, hard fought game on national TV, which certainly elevated their profile.

In 2006, George Mason got an at-large as the 11 seed in the upper right corner of the bracket, with 23 wins on the season, and were roundly criticized by the talking heads.

In 2006, George Mason won their 6-11 matchup against a BCS team with 21 wins who went 10-8 in conference and lost their first game in their conference tournament.

We are not GMU, we are VCU. Hopefully the biggest difference can be in our ability to continue the run a little longer than they did!

And keep it rolling year in year out.

Yeah KU is the 2nd favorite based on seeding. However with Duke getting Irving back that is close. Wish we had two twins on our team. Like having Skeen get in foul trouble and you just put in his twin brother with 0 fouls. Get 10 fouls!

Although I can't remember all the details of their run besides getting the the final 4, but I would think we may have gained more national exposure than GMU up until they reach the elite 8 or so. Regardless, this is all great for our program and our conference.

Heard on some show...forgot which one....that Shaka said he has talked with about 8 recruits this week and that they definitely have a different view of VCU now.

That's what I am talking about! This run is all about the recruiting. If we can steal a superior pg we will be back. Maybe not sweet 16 but we could be very good for the next 3 years. Juvonte, DJ, and Toby give us a real advantage inside. If Juvonte works hard this summer and because more reliable on the offensive end, and DJ keeps improving on defense, add in a healthy Toby, a redshirted Heath, plus adding in Brad on the wing and helping inside VCU could be tough next year.

All we need is a pg, plus Daniels to work his butt off and were good.
