From the article:

"This was my first official visit. I was released last Thursday and I knew when Coach Grant was named at Alabama that I wanted to visit there," Eblen said. "Coach Grant is a great coach but even better person. That stands out to me. He has the same philosophy of play 94 feet for 40 minutes so that hasn't changed. As a person I trust him a lot. I know he's going to be honest with me and he's who I have the best relationship with.

"St. Johns and Rutgers have offered me. Cincinnati is showing a lot of interest and so is College of Charleston. I want to take a couple more visits before I decide anything," Eblen said. "But right now Alabama is my leader because of the visit and Coach Grant. I'm going to give every school a chance though. I have to factor in my family and everything else before I ultimately decide. I graduate May 15 and I want to have my decision done by then though."

I am sure Grant didn't talk with Eblen until after he had asked for his release from VCU

First he tries for Larry and then he takes our best/only recruit. I know recruits commit to coaches, but for a man that supposedly exuded principle and class he doesn't seem to actually have much of it.

Well, when you think Nick Saban and his wife are great people, I guess you'll do just about anything. You lie down with dogs, you get fleas. Pretty sickening.

But its not unusual for something like this to happen. What I find interesting is that he says he wanted to visit Alabama when Grant was named as coach. Leads me to believe VCU never had a realistic shot at keeping him.

Well, the word is that Eblen expected a more high-profile name for our coaching hire. Dooley especially was familiar with Eblen, and Ben expected either him or Springmann to be hired. That said, he signed with VCU because of Grant. While we like to think prospects sign with schools, that is almost NEVER the case. I wouldn't fault Eblen for wanting to go there, and I don't blame Grant for wanting him. He's a heck of a PG who would have definitely helped us this year. He can play in the SEC. Eblen didn't want to play here and was not comfortable with Shaka. That much is apparent. I don't see any need for hard feelings, wish him the best and move on. Same with Grant. He left and took a job that every single one of us would take if we weren't so biased about VCU basketball. That's not greed, it's common-sense. He can win a national championship at Alabama, he can't do that at VCU realistically. I understand his move and I understand Eblen's desire to follow him.

still makes me throw up in my mouth a little.

I don't fault Eblen though...just ready for the Anthony Grant aftershocks to end. Ready to see Gavin shoot the tre and see Larry introduced once again in the black and gold...

He can say anything he wants now about what would have kept him at VCU, but he wants to play for Grant. I don't like it, but I have no choice but to live with it. My respect for Grant just dropped a little. Understand what happened, yes. Like it? heck no.

Let's just move on.

I'm sure there are a lot of current and former VCU players that would say otherwise....

I understand the Eblin thing, but if it's true Grant came after Larry, then Grant's not the person I thought he was. High character, huh.

You think that's bad.... imagine you're Allen Edwards or Tony Pujol. Edwards was an assistant on the Rams teams that helped Grant land his $2 mill contract... he's now looking for a job (maybe he found one, I don't know). Pujol got the "Director of Basketball Operations" gig at Alabama...I don't know..maybe it pays well, but it still sounds like a demotion from being a head assistant coach. Maybe he's just really into scheduling and game-day operations though, who knows.

Coach Grant, eh..

I know that as soon as I heard the speech at Alabama he gave when he was introduced. It was the same speech he gave to VCU. Same BS, insert school name, I guess.

The sad thing is they almost all do it.

That's why I say cheers to the Mark Fews and Jim Laranagas of the world

I checked some of the bama forums and most of the posters don't seem to be too impressed or know anything about Eblen...they are more concerned with how many stars Eblen has then talent.

They want to know if he is SEC quality or CAA quality...
Sorry to break it to you SEC fans, but you are highly overrating "SEC Quality"

I don't blame Eblen, but I do blame Grant. And if the Larry thing is true, it's disgusting (and I'm sure an NCAA violation; one, of course, that you can't prove).
