GRAYSON WILL TRANSFER OUT OF VCU

RICHMOND, Va. – Freshman Issiah Grayson (Atlanta, Ga.) has announced his plans to transfer after one year with the Virginia Commonwealth University men’s basketball program.

“As a coaching staff, we appreciate Issiah’s hard work and contributions both on and off the court,” Head Coach Shaka Smart said. “We wish him nothing but the best for his future.”

Grayson appeared in 13 games last season, tallying nine points, four assists and four rebounds in his 43 minutes of action for the Black & Gold.

Good luck to Issiah - seemed like a great kid. I watch the bench's reactions to great plays on the court and he was always into the games and the first one to jump off the bench when we started one of our great runs!!

I also wish him nothing but the best ...............

Rising sophomore point guard Issiah Grayson is leaving the VCU program and transferring in order to find a better situation for him to get good minutes. He was professional through and through and had a great demeanor on and off the court representing the program and school well. While things didn't work out for him on the court, he was professional about it all the way. I think I can speak for all Ram fans when I say 'Good luck and all the best in your future endeavors!'.

The Rams now have another scholarship and will not be looking to use it on just anybody. The staff has a good head start on 2011 and is in good shape with a number of prospects but will also keep the scholarship open in the event that a suitable mid-year transfer becomes available. Again the Report wishes Issiah 'Iggy' Grayson all the best and a bright future with whichever program he chooses to join.

We were looking at a couple of guys but those situations didn't pan out. The staff will be very judicious in the use of this scholarship but will likely go with a mid-year transfer should he become available. The focus will be on a big man with 2011 targets being guards for the most part. If that doesn't pan out, we will pick up a big man in the 2011 class.

Wow! Absolutely wish that kid the best!! I have been an IG fan from day one and kept wishing he'd get more minutes. He needs to be playing somewhere...just too bad it couldn't have been here. Thanks for your contributions to VCU basketball.

Agreed. The kid seemed to be likable and an all round good guy. Just a numbers game and his didn't come up. He should do well as it appears he can handle the ball and hustle. Hopefully, he finds a DI program that can use his skill set and he has a fantastic career and graduates.

Damm, I liked him-great attitude bu I think he sees he light-not much PT around here in the future the way this staff is recruiting-Good luck Issaiah.

In advance, I hope some fans in RamNation won't start in on the subject of looking for anything bad regarding chemistry, school, coaches, etc...

Every program must recruit to maximize their roster. VCU's continued efforts to be the best program it can become will from time to time result in good young men like this looking into the crystal ball to seek out more playing time elsewhere. It should not br negative. I'm happy for Grayson. He appears to be very classy in how he has conducted himself, as well as how the coaches/school have likewise.

Best wishes for the perfect fit in his future. I hope VCU has been an integral and positive part of his educational and athletic experience.

Wow, a surprise but totally understandable. For a guy who barely played he was still one of my favorite player due to the positive attitude he always seemed to display.
The next question is how do these transfers impact our graduation rate?

wish him the best of luck. this was something that had to be expected eventually because he wasnt going to play again this coming year and with as hard as we are pushing for guards come 2011 nothing was guaranteed in terms of PT for him.

Like Chill said....surprising, but understandable.

Seems like a nice kid and a great teamate....really would have liked to have seen him in some real action. I'll definately follow him wherever he ends up. I'm guessin' he'll stay D-1 since he'll have 3 years left....any clue which way the wind will blow him too??

This is best for Grayson if he wants to play. We have two solid PG comming back and all he would do is ride the pine. I wish him the best, he appears to have great character and demeanor but not the right fit at VCU. I wonder if Branderburg can handle the point as well just in case Rod or Theus should get injured.

As long as they transfer to another school and graduate we are ok, but obviously we don't have any control over it once they transfer out. Hopefully Brown, Kearse, Saintil, and now Grayson all keep their grades up. Gavin should be on Marist's watch, and Ndongo graduated before he left. So far Larry is the only one from the past few years that has not and will not graduate any time soon.
