22 points, 9 boards, 2 blocks... and 2-3 from downtown including what should have been an overtime forcing long bomb (until the refs allowed a post-buzzer game winning 3 by Memphis).

Great job Larry. Definitely found his stroke tonight and settled down a lot. Still brought the hustle though.

Still wanna see him play a little "bigger"...less touch, more power.

If Larry died his hair blond and red, put on a nose ring and lip ring he would end up looking like Dennis Rodman. Anyone else notice the resemblance?

Anyway, great game by Larry tonight.

Comments on the Mil newspaper blog:

14 players picked ahead of sanders, including ....aldrich...unreal. thank you teams who passed on this kid. unfortunately, someone has to go now. to be honest, id rather we just eat redds contract and cut him as keep one of these younger guys with talent off the squad. sanders could contribute big minutes this year. gallon would look better if sanders didnt look so good. williams didnt look good in the short time he was in tonight, imo. and also in my opinion, you take gallon over jackson ALL DAY LONG, with that length, upside and shooting touch. i saw in another thread guys complainin he was on the perimeter....he was on thabeet down low too and he got his shot. had 11 boards. hes 19. you dont cut a kid with that kinda potential. i assure you, hammond will not do it either. sanders looks like a men playin against boys. what a steal.
Why did Sanders shoot three 3's? I hope making a couple doesn't make him
think he can shoot em.
Otherwise his line looks pretty good.
Last must be a Ram fan. ;)

I know I will be crucified for this...but I dont feel the same excitement for Larry the I did for Maynor. Don't get me wrong I'm glad he is doing well and its good for the program. I've watched both of the Summer league games and he is really hustling. I don't feel he gave VCU the same effort last year..Maybe it's just me..

Sanders ties the game with .7 seconds remaining: http://i.cdn.turner.com/nba/nba/.elemen ... _play3.nba
did anyone notice who gave larry the chest bump after he made the shot?

Tiny and Larry seemed to have good chemistry on the floor. Hopefully they will push each other and hit the boards and play tough D for Skiles. Great game for Larry. C Web was impressed and McHale the night before.

Maybe its because Eric gave us 4 years and Larry only 3?

maybe cause eric's number is hanging from the rafter...and eric was the first (in recent history). It's kinda like having babies. The first one you have 100 pictures and 12 baby books. The 2nd kid oh i think we can find some pics for that kid somewhere.

i was lost when you used maynor and sanders in the same sentence. but let's give larry some credit for what he has done at vcu and of course he's giving more of an effort in the nba. a million dollar contract will do that and he has more competition in the nba so he has to give a little extra. plus he's in much better shape than he was in while at vcu.

It's not just you. It's you and a few others.

The expectations fo Larry have been and will continue to be unrealistic. It's the big man syndrome. He'll never get the credit he deserves. Most people don't root for 6'11" guys like they do for the little guy.

Everyone feels, rightly or wrongly, that Eric gave us his all, while Larry was just trying to get to the NBA.

Personally I don't care. I'm fans of both. I came out of my seat when he hit that first three at the end, and they heard me downtown when he hit the one that should have sent it to overtime.

I've said for a long time that I think Larry will be more successful and play longer in the NBA. Both will be playing for a while, but Larry will have more of an impact.

But don't give up on "contributions" to VCU from Larry. After a 6 or 7 year contract signing in a couple years, they may have to rename the building. Some of the long term contracts you see in the 10s of millions might make it possible for him become a major contributor. Norwood...?

It's interesting, but quite a few posters complained that Eric took plays off defensively and there were many complaints in in-game threads during the first three quarters of games. But when he raised his level of play at the end and took over games, all was forgotten. In truth, no one can play with the same high intensity for 40 minutes every night and no one can dominate every trip down the floor.

It seems that was what was expected of Larry. He was supposed to score every time he touched the ball (and it had to be in the paint) and he was supposed to grab every rebound (sometimes at the end of games it seemed like he did). We were probably a little spoiled because his first two years there were a number of games where his hustle (blocked shots, steals, loose balls, rebounds) alone seemed to save us/keep us in games. Of course, as long as he didn't commit a foul in the process it was ok. If he committed fouls it was stupid and poor decision-making.
