Don't know if you guys have seen about this yet........but a 7.0 hit like 10 miles from the capital.

When you add in all the factors.............shallow earthquake (more violent shaking), impoverished nation, shoddy building standards at best, starving population that had very little food already and then you see the scope of the destruction (the Un building, a hospital, the president palace all collapsed) and add in the rioting and shootings that will surely happen as people scrap for what little is left on the island........well, things are going to get real bad.

Thousands will die, hopefully not tens of thousands, but its possible. I'm actually going to give 100 dollars to the red cross (not much, but times are tight right now). If anyone has any extra loot, I would suggest giving some money. Be thankful you live in a country like ours. America may have its faults, but it also has some really good people who help others when things are bad, which is more than you can say for alot of countries.

Just saw video of their "White House" on the Today show...the roof had basically caved in (and that's their nicest building). As if that country wasn't struggling before, very unfortunate.

Just found out Mrs. Pav's cousin was in Haiti on a church mission trip during the quake. Still waiting on word.

There really are no words for how absolutely terrible this catastrophe is.

The poorest country in the western hemisphere. They share the same island with the Dominican Republic, a successful economy. So Saintil's people are from Haiti? Come to think of it, he's got some features similar to those I've seen in folks from there.

My church always does programs travel to Haiti for 2 weeks to built houses, fences, and just help people. Its able to be done it like every other month because of all the volunteers from parishioners. The church's only priest went down to Haiti to see what area to work on next month and he managed to escape the earthquake. I wonder if they'll be able to send people down there to help out now with all the damage? Its a really sad situation especially with the fact that a area that poor couldn't possibly be prepared.

It's possible...I believe Saintil is a Haitian name.

I've donated some money to the Red Cross to aid in this effort. It's a very unfortunate situation for an already struggling country.

If any Ram Fans have the means, I urge you to donate as well.

Yeah, give where you can Ram fans! And be sure to make sure your donations go to actual charities.
And FYI, monetary donations are best right now. Distribution of food and water is inadequate, they are still in search and rescue mode for the most part, the US military has to restore order and there is no infrastructure to support relief workers coming in (many of the Red Cross trained volunteers who normally would be called up are still on standby because there is just no place to send them). So give what you can to the Red Cross, to the search and rescue teams (Like the Fairfax Urban Search and Rescue) and the government has a website for providing info on charities:
http://www.usaid.gov/
So, check it out and please help out!

Just found out Mrs. Pav's cousin is ok for now, but only has food for one more day, and clean water for one more after that. Hopefully workers can get the roads clear soon, so aid can arrive, otherwise there are going to be a lot more problems when everyone's food runs out.

This. It is a sad but true fact that dozens of fake charities spring up (or resurface) every time a major catastrophe hits in order scam people out of money.

Just a note. If your in Ukrops you can donate when you go through the line. Just ask about donating and the cashier will put the code in. You can donate 5,10, or 20. I'm not sure if you can donate more but feel free to ask.
