6'8 245 pound rising sophomore Halil Kanacevic asked for and received his release from Hofstra. He was a member of the CAA All-Rookie team and a promising frontcourt player for the Pride, averaging 8.6 points, 7.6 rebounds and 2 blocks per game during his impressive freshmen season. That has to hurt the Pride as Greg Washington is a senior this year and Kanacevic was considered the future of the Pride frontcourt.

Speculation was that the 6-8 forward might follow Pecora to Fordham, and Staten Island basketball fans would probably like to see him come home to Wagner College to play for new coach Danny Hurley, but neither of those options are possible.

Kanacevic said he agreed to a conditional release that prohibits him from transferring to a school in the New York Metropolitan area.

"It's not like I can go to Wagner. I got released saying I couldn't play in the New York Metropolitan area," said Kanacevic. "I guess they don't want me playing against them."

Other mentioned destinations for the talented big man have been St. Joseph's, which is in Philadelphia and plays in the Atlantic-10, and Siena, where he would be reunited with high school rival and St. Peter's grad O.D. Anosike (who is the same age) and Farrell alum Ryan Rossiter.
