...I don't know, those melee attacks sound like potential foul trouble :geek:

I don't know maybe they weren't made by Ram Nation. Havoc was just something that was mentioned in the press conference though, it is not a trademark. If the site was just Ram Nation rather than VCU Ram Nation they could probably get away with having some merch made. Sounds cool though. When and where are these going to be available?

not so sure the "vcu" part isn't the easy part and that "ram nation" wouldn't be the tricky part...

The Ram Nation, located in the heart of downtown Rockford, Michigan, is your source for all your Rockford Ram spirit wear, clothing, gear, and accessories. Opened in June 2008, The Ram Nation features an open, trendy, and relaxed shopping experience, complete with bleachers, lockers, scoreboard, and a tailgating section.

Whether a student, parent, faculty, or just a fan, The Ram Nation can outfit you with all of your Rockford Ram gear, including: . . .
(a source of sportswear/fanwear, including tee shirts... same type of goods as proposed)

I say go ahead and make/sell some Ram Nation tees. By the time Rockford finds out about it, hires a lawyer, and sends a cease and desist order, you will have sold all the Ram Nation Tees there are to be sold...problem solved! :D

I'm not sure, but isn't copyright law state to state?

2 part answer:

Part 1.
Absolutely not. Copyright is federal... Title 17 of the U.S. Code, enabled as an enumerated power by Article 1, Section 8, Clause 8, of the U.S. Constitution (which also enables patent law)... and totally preempts state laws on the subject.

Part 2.
However, copyright law is irrelevant to this discussion because the type of issue here would be governed by trademark law. Trademark law is both federal and state (although the federal side is much stronger). Copyright and trademark, along with patents and trade secrets, are lumped together under the lable "intellectual property," but they're all really pretty separate. Copyright and patent are designed to protect the rights of creators, whereas trademark arises out unfair competition law and commercial protection concerns.
