If seeding doesn't matter, what determines which team gets the home court advantage?
Is it true that the championship is determined by a best 2 out of 3 series?

I think money is the answer to question #1, and yes the championship is a best 2 out of 3 series with the first and third being played at the home of the top "seed". I have read that it cost $60,000 to host a home game in this tourney, although some teams might have been able to negotiate a lower figure.

What if both teams don't want to pay the 60K or both teams want to?

Are we considered the top "seed" if we make it to the championship series?

They don't exactly make that public, which is why I mentioned that some teams might be able to negotiate a lower figure. I would imagine that teams unwilling to pay the sticker price would bid for home games and the team with the highest bid on that side of the bracket would get the home game, or maybe if both teams are willing to pay the $60,000 then it could be based on merit. I think they mentioned on their website that they reseed before the semifinals so it would be unknown at this time if we would be considered a top seed if we were to make it to the championship.

Thanks again for the reply.
It doesn't sound like there are any clear cut answers. I guess we just need to keep winning and find out where we play after the game.

Seems to me like the games are put out for bid, GW out bid us to host this one, but we out bid both of the teams in the CoC/EKU game, so we host the winner of that one...

My guess is VCU decided to spend money on a second round game vs. a first round game. Regarding first round home games, my guess is the CBI was looking for 8 takers and then matched up the other 8 schools with those buying home games. You have to take care of the finances first!

Regarding the championship series, I hope the top seed is not the school that is willing to pay $120,000 for 2 home games. This trophy could get expensive!!! I'd hate to see VCU pay out $240,000 for home games in the second round, semifinals and championship series in order to get a trophy when we don't even have a trophy case!

Well if we are paying full price we can knock off $60,000 by winning the finals in 2 games home and away. Hopefully ticket sales will offset enough of the cost that we still have some money left over to buy that trophy case.

seems like an awful steep price to pay to be in a tournament.....I can't believe that every single home game is going to cost $60K. What is the incentive to even be in this tournament? VCU could have invited half of those teams to play in a tournament at the SC or coliseum and charged $10K each. Or just contacted 8+ school and said, "Hey lets have a few post season games and see who is who on the court."

But then again I guess the CBI/CIT has been "sanctioned" by the NCAA.

I'm not positive about this but...

I was told that if will be more like $30K for us to host the next game on Monday. At least with this number we should be able to break even or make a buck or two by hosting.

this isn't exactly science or parliamentary procedure, it's a for-profit invitational sports tournament... it will be what it will be, and as long as there's no harm done, I say just ride the lightning

That trophy better be carved from a block of solid gold with a custom RAM made of diamonds if we win that tournament...
