here is your perspective

It is a great article. Glad I had a chance to read it. I always thought Coach Grant was a class act.

You can't help but want to see class act coaches succeed. He's now 2-0 in the SEC with a nice win over South Carolina last night.

That's a helluva tragic story, but one that offers hope in the end. I can't imagine (nor would I want to imagine) how I'd be able to deal with that situation.

This was actually Yahoo Sports' breaking article with the newly named column "The Post Game" I look forward to reading more of these in the future.

After our first child, Mrs Enonram had a difficult time carrying babies to full-term. We ended up going invetro for our last two. We know we lost at least four (one set of twins) along the way. It was very difficult emotionally. I had to and tried be strong for her. I don't know how well I did. Having to be strong for her made it difficult for me to grieve. We don't talk about it much. When we do, it's about our shared belief that they will we waiting for us in heaven and we will get to raise and be with them there.

RE Perspective ... On the subject of coaches, how long is Tony Shaver's leash on The Reservation?

Last night's faux pas (before a giddy crowd of slighly more than nobody) drops Shave's record to 87-124 - with home attendance averaging 1,695. I've seen a more rowdy atmosphere at a wake and more folks in line at the Wawa coffee counter.

But before you scream "academics," as the cause for the mediocrity/apathy, consider this: long-time WM football coach Jimmye Laycock is 208-145-2 in a sport just as reliant on African-American talent as hoops.

If WM's afficionados are content with the direction of the basketball program, then I'm quite sure the rest of the CAA is okay with it, too.

One word of advice to Tony - limit Kendrix Brown's minutes. The junior from Norfolk has 48 turnovers this season compared to 17 baskets - would Elmer Fudd do much worse than that?

As for VCU, the situation couldn't be any better (at least for short term). Shaka Smart is 39-14 employing an aggressive, crowd-pleasing style that translates to a higher level. Every game, it's like VCU is throwing all the punches and the other side is just trying to cover up and hope for the bell to save them.

Since I didn't feel like raking leaves in the cold, I sat around all morning trying to think of something negative to say about Shaka, and I couldn't come up with anything. He's destined for upward mobility ... and when that happens, I nominate Mike Rhoades .... beep, beep, "The Rhoades-runner," as his rightful successor.

Be careful what you say about Shaver around here. It is good to have two coaches with winning records against Mr. Shaver on our bench though. Maybe he isn't so great after all. Probably not the best thread for this though.

I've never understood the Shaver hype-wagon that everyone seems to jump on. WM has been (except for all of a single year) been a very, very mediocre team....even before Shaver. Other sports seem to succeed at WM....but basketball is not one of them. WM does little but drag down our conference ranking year in and year out. And I don't see Shaver ever really being capable of changing that.

And I don't get the "But we are the academic elite so we can't compete." philosophy. Tell that to Villanova, Georgetown, Stanford, etc.

They have been much, much more competitive with Shaver at the healm. My wife asked me last night during the game why there are no black dudes on William and Mary and a few things came to mind:

1) First they have higher standards then a lot of fellow CAA institutions, but I don't think that is the sole reason;
2) Unless you are a white guy who isn't skilled enough to get into UVA, there isn't a great reason to go to William and Mary, it's not real trendy.

I hate when people bring race into things, but this is the only explanation. William and Mary is a tough, tough gig b/c of this. Unless the culture changes, they are not going to land some of the better CAA recruits. Shaver gets every ounce out of his team that he can, he has a lot of respect from me.
