I'm going to guess he still says no after we call asking for a home-and-home.

He'd probably also soil himself and curl into the fetal position.

Well, if he was afraid to schedule us before this run, I would say the chances are nil that it would happen now...

Mason plays in the pre season NIT in a format that is similar to what ours was earlier this season. Instead of Wake they will be in a pod with Virginia Tech. Of course you know Tech will be seeded one and Mason two, even though it should be the other way around. That means GMU will likely play Tech at Cassell Coliseum for a trip to MSG. Considering what Mason has returning my money will be on them. Seth may never schedule another CAA team.

Good for Mason! They should wipe the floor with Tech next year.

I didn't realize that, that is awesome. Tech knows how to lose on their home floor in the NIT so hopefully that experience will pay off for them. If Tech ever makes it to MSG it will be because they bought a ticket.

My guess is that he may be coming around to this idea. He may like the fact that 4 players are graduating and the team will be younger next season. I hope he takes the bait. The experience our youngsters are gaining in this tournament run is huge. Our program has a lot to look forward to in coming years. While I am enjoying this moment we are in now I am also glowing with excitement when I think about our future. This team has smashed through the accomplishments set by Maynor and Sanders raising the bar to new heights. We already have young talent. Now a lot of prospects are going to give VCU another look after realizing what an opportunity they could have wearing the black and gold. VCU is now center stage in the world of college basketball. It's time for the school to get serious by commiting to pay a market wage for a young great coach so the school can continue to gain from the recognition they are receiving in the national press.

That is a good question and a great thread to start in a couple weeks when the season is over. How much can we afford to pay Coach Smart and what is his market value now? I would say he is due over a million a year but I have no idea what we can afford. But for now lets just keep living in the moment. This is so magical and we are not done yet...we just aren't done yet.

I am confident Teague and the administration will step up and pay him. Wonder how this run will impact our recruiting?

If we're getting calls from old recruits and de-commits wanting to joint our program, you could expect this to have a larger impact on our overall recruiting in the future. We're going to get a lot more talented and athletic guys who would want to repeat the run that we have now... Although talented doesn't necesssarily mean better results (see: FSU, Purdue, Georgetown, USC). If I remember correctly, our sophomore and all our seniors except for Skeen were ranked in the low 80s and/or 2stars on most of the recruiting services. Now look at where we are. It's not all about ratings, it's about how they mesh as a team. I still think that a team that gels together for four years, has the greater advantage over teams with a lot of talent (4-5star athletes, mid-high 90s rated).

I say the athletic programs in the state of VA coordinate an annual holiday tournament or something. Instead of flying their team all the way to say Hawaii or Puerto Rico for some exotic tournament, save costs and keep these in-state rivalries going. 12 VA teams off the top of my head that should/could enter are: The 5 CAA VA teams, UVA, Tech, Richmond, VMI, Radford, Liberty, and Hampton. We could include some Div II teams if we need an even 16 or, better yet, invite universities close to the state in DC, Maryland, or North Carolina. Not only would it be the ultimate dispute settler among local universities, I could see "the VA Championship Tournament" providing all our universities with some extremely healthy competition and getting some good ratings/revenue from it.

I could see if UVA or Tech wouldn't want to join in at first (because we always hear them say that playing any of the other in-state teams weakens their schedule, or they're just plain shook), but think if at least 8 of the aforementioned teams commit to doing something like this a few years in a row. As long as its not an absolute failure (which I honestly don't see happening), the rest of the local teams that didn't want to be a part of it at first would surely change their minds. More of a fantasy than "just a thought" I know, but I really think something like this is worth a try.

If the coach stays (no more discussion needed in this area now), I am almost happy that we had several decommits/non-signees. Perhaps there are better out there. But decommit or new signee I am sure Shaka will get the best for his program.

Conference opponents can't play against each other out of conference during the season. :?

I knew there was probably some NCAA technicality, how bout pre-season? Could try and make it work with 8 teams from 8 dif. conferences (including some div. II teams, if that's even allowed) but then it would just be some boring lop-sided tournament with only the final having a slim chance of being anything worth watching. How bout we get a football team already and then a bunch of the said universities can combine into something that could be called the Virginia Athletic Association? Would love that... :ugeek:

Re: Hey Seth Greenberg, wanna schedule us now? (tweets on VC

There used to be something like that in the DC area - you had the DC schools going up against each other in exhibition games (not really a tournament) - Maryland, GW, Georgetown, Howard, Navy, American U, Mason, and Towson if I recall correctly (not certain on the last one). The matchups were all non-conference, so it was Maryland vs. Georgetown, Howard vs. American, Navy vs. Towson, Mason vs. GW or something like that. They were all played at the Verizon Center.
