HOFSTRA PREVIEW

i hear he's writing prescriptions for antibiotics all day somewhere south of Richmond.

ok ok fine.

i'll do the preview this week. k ready? here goes:

don't leave #22 open.

That should be a fun match up to watch. I am assuming when Nixon is in the game he will be on Jenkins.

He and Brandon did a great job on Alphonso Dawson in the Delaware game, that was a good tune-up for Mr. Jenkins!

Well...I'm no DB, but I do know that Hofstra is leading the league in rebounding (40.1/game)....which is a worrisome stat as our rebounding can disappear at times. On the bright side, the Pride have already committed 246 turnovers (to our 183)...which bodes well if the team remembered to pack the Havoc.

There's a lot of desriptive words I can use about watching this game unfold. Anxious, Curious, Morbidly Curious (naaah, to cynical), Wicked Excited, Trepidatious (is that a word?)....regardless, I'm lookin' forward to it and hope we play cohesive team basketball. I've got my sig line quote down there for a reason :D

He was sick for the Drexel game. Coach said he was 100% the following day at practice.

He played 26 minutes vs. Delaware, and he looked ok. I am assuming he has gotten better since the Drexel game.

Jenkins will be a tough match up, even for Ed. He is STRONG inside and likes to drive the lane and mix it up inside. He is shooting much better than previous years as well (or he was last time I checked). I would say he's the POY candidate to beat.

I was able to catch some of the Hofstra/ODU game Saturday on TV. Hofstra dug themselves a big hole with a lot or early turnovers. Believe they had over 20 for the game. ODU hit a lot of inside shots at first, then went cold. ODU was 14-31 from the foul line which allowed Hofstra to mount a come back, but ODU's size enabled them to push it inside plus kept Hofstra a one and done on their offensive possessions.

Hofstra has some quick guards, but don't have a lot of depth on big men. If we continue to have a balanced attack and Larry focuses on his inside game, we win this one. Many said we could not win without Eric. Then a lot said we would suck without Larry. I believe Saturday's performance showed that we are vesatile, have great depth and endurance. Keep them off the boards, we win. Shutdown Jenkins, definitely win.

A road win will keep us in third place, two games out of first. I feel the energy and confidence this team is putting out. It won't be a gimmie, in fact, it may go into overtime, but I feel the momentum going our way.

Couple of things:

Hofstra has ZERO quality wins. Those who downplay our win over OU as a big win or not should peek at their resume of wins. When beating Yale or Manhattan is as big a win as any, there's not much quality there. They've beaten Towson twice, which if anything, seems to be a bigger indictment of Towson than anything..

Jenkins scoring has been down the last 6 games.
While he's averaging over 17 per game on the season, he's averaging just a shade over 13 points per game over his last 6 contests. A big 38 point outburst against Fairfield earlier this year did a lot for his ppg avg.

Hofstra has big guards.
Their two starting guards are 6 foot 3 and 6 foot 5. You'd assume someone longer like Ed will be on Jenkins, but you'd have to expect Hofstra to take advantage of a height mis-match against Joey when they can.

Technically we are tied for 6th place, not 3rd place. Yes, we are two games out of first, but we are tied for 6th place with JMU, Hofstra, Georgia State and UNCW.

We don't have any quality road wins.
This game is huge. There's a big difference between 3-3 and 2-4 in the conference. Go Rams!

Has our coaching staff watched the entire ODU/HU game? They should be looking for every situation where Jenkins was closely guarded or closely guarding, look at every situation Jenkins went for a rebound or loose ball and try to find him throwing an elbow. Then forward that tape to the CAA office pronto.
