Losing at the French open for the first time in like 5 years??? That Soderling guy was on a serious mission.

I'm really looking forward to the bottom of the bracket with Roddick taking on the Larry Sanders of men's tennis...Gael Monfils. Then winner gets Federer???? Are you kidding me????

I'd like to see Soderling and Andy Murray meet up in the Semi's as well... definitely think Soderling "deserves" to be in the Final after taking out Rafa but he'll probably go down to Davydenko.

Well, Haas is trying to keep Federer from getting to the final, but looks like he's fading.

Soderling won a Challenger Tournament I worked back in March. I think the score in the final was 6-1, 6-1. The guy really bangs the ball. One of the hardest hitters out there.

darn, a 6-0 fourth set?!?! what the heck happened to haas out there?

i remember watching haas about 12 years ago at the legg mason in dc, thinking he was going to be the next big thing. never quite put it together.

Monfils v. Roddick on ESPN2 in two minutes. Hopefully the match will be pretty much locked up by the time I have to leave for work...(Go Gael)

He was crushing that ball yesterday against Nadal. If you hadn't seen either of them play before you would've thought Soderling was the 5 time champ... totally controlled that match.

Come on, root for the American. ;) The whole stadium will be against Roddick.

good match for monfils I was amazed that he beat roddick in straight sets. I could have done without him hyping the crowd up after almost every game in the last set but at the same time I could have done without roddick acting like a baby about how late it was getting.

Absolutely, I'll pull for Andy. I would be surprised if he won this tournament, though. If Andy doesn't win, I'll pull for Federer. When he was cruising a couple years back, I thought I never saw anyone, including Laver in his prime, strike the ball like that. His spin is amazing.

Never thought I would see somebody hit a heavier looking ball than Nadal, but Soderling's shots did indeed look heavier. It was cool to see the expression on Nadal's face. Nadal's press conference afterward makes you love the guy, though. What a class champion he is. Federer, too. I always liked McEnroe's game, but his behavior on the court turned me off.

Incidentally, tennis is a blast to watch in Hi-Def. Hockey, too. Finally, I can folow the puck!

Now I'll be pulling for Fernando Gonzalez. My girlfriend is from Chile and her family are all big tennis fans. Her brother was #1 in Chile when he was a kid.

But I'm sure she's a #10! ;)

She is.

Her brother is her twin and unfortunately he beat me in tennis when I was down there a few weeks ago. Of course, he's a little younger than me and I've only played on that red dirt once in my life. He's pretty friggin' good though.

They were having a big junior tournament at his club when I was down there. Wonder if he can find any top prospects that would like to be a Ram.

That Gonzales-Soderling match could be the best of the tournament. Gonzales was tres impressive vs. Murray yesterday. I don't think Federer has the chops to handle either one on clay, though I'm pulling for him to get his French Open on his resume. He'll probably never get a better chance.

With no Monfils I will officially throw my support to Federer. That guy is a class act...I'd like to see him pick up that Final major that's avoided him.

im in the "anyone but Federer" camp. I agree, he is a class act, but Ive been a big Nadal fan the last 3 or 4 years and I just dont feel right throwing my support on Federer.

Don't worry...Nadal will win the French next year. ;)
I think Federer will win the final in 5 sets...the final might be similar to the 4+ hour Wimbeldon final between Federer-Nadal. Let's only hope :)
