How are you feeling right now about the team and program?

I am pretty sure that players do care about facilities. They also want perks that VCU provides. BDC, private plane, food services, etc. And now they get $ so that is among their wants.
and the coaches want there 7 digit, guaranteed, "non enforceable/ leave whenever a better offer comes" contracts. And then the women want everything the men have. And the student body and newly minted alums want all their loans forgiven.
It is such a wonderfully sustainable system.

Of course the players want all those amenities..... and until NIL became legal.... those kind of things (minus the $$$$ under the table offers some P5s got away with) used to be difference makers in us landing recruits out of HS....

Heck, you remember we initially landed Kenny Williams & Jordan Murphy before Shaka left for Texas.... both of whom went on to have solid college careers.... so prior to NIL.... facilities, amenities... and of course playing time were big factors in recruiting.

But now NIL is legal & out in the open & more heavily involved. And players are going for the money more so than they are for the facilities, amenities, fans, experience.... or even playing time.

I don't know where our facilities rank among Division 1 or even the A10.... but clearly $$$ is the biggest deciding factor here and why several other A10 schools are already landing players. Obviously for STL there's also the coach/player connection between Schertz & Avila..... just as we landed Shulga & Bairstow last year in large part because of Odom.

But it's clear as day right now, most players care more about $$$$ then they do anything else.

Definitely not worth the price we paid for the BDC. Sure it’s an extra perk but it’s definitely not a big reason at all to come here anymore. It’s not really a recruiting tool anymore. The only thing that matters to get players to come now is strictly money. Nothing else. Whoever we get in the portal is coming because they couldn’t get more money elsewhere but got more money from us than other schools. That’s it. The BDC wasn’t worth the cost in the grand scheme of things.

Yeah but how was VCU to know? I say scale the athletic village down and pour more money into men's and women's basketball. May be the only way to go.

So Tennis, track/field, or soccer get screwed? Because all the sports out perform basketball performance wise except soccer who is having their stadium demolished so we have to build a new one.

Slow down. We gonna win in all sports but let's concentrate on MBB. Remain the flagship.

Maybe we can build a casino on the land that was designated for the Athletic Village and the proceeds can help fill the bags for these poor MBB players.
The Virginia Lotto does contribute a lot of funding to the state public education system, so it only makes sense that a casino would support higher ed….

They wouldn’t know. I’m not blaming VCU at all. I was all for it and loved how we invested into the program. I’m just saying it sucks now because we invested all that money into it and it’s no longer a recruiting tool.
