How are you feeling right now about the team and program?

I don't have any issue with this post. I've enjoyed watching this roller coaster of a season, but it'd be foolish to confidently believe this team *WILL* win 3 or 4 consecutive games in 4 or 5 days on a neutral court in Brooklyn with the lack of interior scoring. I'm not saying it won't happen because Championship Week typically has a few funky conference tournament results, but I wouldn't bank on it.
One thing VCU has going for it in a multi-day tournament is depth. We have a deeper team than most of the A10.

That.... I agree with and if we can make it to Semifinal Saturday we will either have the most fans or will compete with Dayton (and Bona if they make it) for the most fans at Barclays.

I just have a hard time seeing the team shoot lights from 3 for 3 or 4 days because if they don't then they'll need to generate interior scoring and certain teams (looking at you UMass and Bona) have dominated us inside.

I don't think it is wrong to believe we can win it all but I also don't think its wrong to see us losing our first game. This team has a lot of talent but way too inconsistent. The bigs are also an issue. We have a lot of long, athletic big men, but they all have some big weaknesses and any guy with some bulk, kills them down low. Roosevelt pretty much being invisible(except for a little bit in the UMASS game) has really hurt us. He has the frame that we desperately need to counter Lawal/Fermin but it just isn't panning out.

This team could def make the big dance but we all should expect an NIT bid.

I am thinking there will be a lot more changes this coming year than we think. I don't see RO standing pat with the 11 (potentially) he has coming back. We have soooo many needs to make a team that can make a run in the tournament let alone compete for top spot in the A10.

So yes, to your point please say no whatever this year's pay to play tournament there is. Not even sure I would accept NIT unless required by the A10.

Also, if we do somehow win the A10 tournament we will be seeded 12th or lower in Spokane against Arizona. Not sure, that this year, that appeals to me with this team. Could be another Michigan type slaughter.
That’s fine. Get in the NCAA tournament and I’m dancing on my head naked on Broad Street. Don’t care who or where we play, I’d be absolutely through the roof ecstatic.

We are in a better place as a program than we were in 2010 but don’t forget Shaka won the CBI in his first season at VCU in 09-10 (VCU beat Rick Majerus coached SLU that year in a best of 3 game series I believe). The next season he went to the final four. Not saying Coach Ryan Odom will do the same. But we shouldn’t really look down on postseason tournaments for a first year coach trying to build an identity with the this program. Is the CBI ideal for VCU now? No it’s not. The NIT to me if we don’t play in the NCAAT is something I personally would be excited to watch this team compete in.
That was when we were in the CAA. There is no chance we play or should play in the CBI. Please take a look at the past programs that have played that tournament in the past 10 years. No way we drag ourselves down to that level let alone pay for it.

Unless we win the rest of our games the league Chamionship might not happen. Then we will either have to win our tournament or do very well for an NCAA bid.

So you're saying if we lose a game in Brooklyn we won't be league champs?

I agreed with us playing the the CBI in 2010 and hoped that we would participate again in 2018 during MR's first season when we missed the NCAA tournament for the first time in 8 years. When we announced that we would not be participating and our season was over I was initially disappointed then I saw the bracket and the teams participating. You have roughly 100 teams in the NCAA and NIT tournaments. Then it seemed like the next 50 to 100 were not playing any post season ball. The teams in the CBI tournament that season seemed to be ranked around 150 to 250 in the RPI. That year started a major fall off in the quality of the teams and conferences participating. I believe every tournament since then has featured at least one team with a .500 or losing record. IMO the CBI used to be a fun tournament to keep up with and I enjoyed our participation in 2010. It is no longer what it was back in 2010 though and probably won't be around much longer. For me it is not an ego thing or a money thing since ticket sales would likely cover the cost of participation. Those were my feelings as of 2018. Now in the portal era I think CBI participation becomes even less advantageous. You need to start working on next season's roster right away, players would likely opt out and you have no idea who will be on your team next season to benefit from the additional practice. I doubt if we would entertain any tournaments outside of the NCAA or NIT and the NIT is quickly losing its luster.

EDIT: I looked it up and see that the entire tournament is now played at a neutral site so we would not recoup any of the entry fee through ticket sales although their are cash prizes.

Or maybe a slightly better chance at 4th than 5th?

VCU can go 4-1 and still be Top 4. UMass HAS to have VCU go 3-2 AND win all of their games to tie VCU.

This is not directed at you by any means, but I've seen a lot of doom and gloom on twitter about how we're probably going to miss the Double Bye. I hope others remember that other teams play games too. I know Tuesday sucked ass, but UMass isn't 8-6 in the A10 for no reason. They can lose too!

I feel like VCU is in great position to get the double bye and garner an opportunity to win the A10 tourney.

It all depends on how they respond to the Minutemen massacre.

If the team carries over the same lackluster focus and lack of urgency from the previous game to the first half tomorrow thenit's gonna be a long Saturday.

This goes back to the terrible effort at St Louis
