How are you feeling right now about the team and program?

Thanks! I’ve been going to games since I graduated in 87 but was never able to afford more than a good handful of games or season tickets. During the waiting list and “sellout” era it was a bit costly so getting to 6 games or so was the best I could do. Thanks to many of you who sold at cost on the ticket exchange- you were life savers! Last couple years got to 10+. With the drop I did the math and could get 3 seats for me and my two boys. Glad to be locked in and looking forward to an awesome season!

Here is what I find encouraging so far for VCU: 1) we didn't play particularly well on defense for much of the game against Bellarmine, and yet we won by 19. The offense was really good, except for the turnovers. 2) We didn't play great offensively against BC. Didn't shoot well, 12 turnovers (8 in the first half), and missed 9 FTs, most of them by guys who shoot 80%+. Yet, we won by 25 because the defense was really good, and we dominated the glass for the first 32-35 minutes. Think about that: we didn't play much more than a "B-level" game on offense and still scored 80 against an ACC team. If our offense had been as good against BC as it was against Bellarmine, then we could have scored 100 and won by 45. Now, BC isn't very good right now, but their an ACC team that can match-up with us athletically, and they have a few really good players. They're still trying to figure it out early in the season, but it was a good game for us to experience because they were physical, which I think bothered us offensively some last night.

The point of my rambling above: VCU hasn't really played as well as they will, which is normal early in the season, and we've blown away both opponents so far. There's such a long way to go, and anything can happen (injuries, etc.), but this team has a chance to be a really special team in the annals of VCU basketball.

For what it's worth, we are back to doing what we SHOULD be doing. Dominating these early season games. This has become increasingly difficult over the past couple of years seeing as we've had our fair share of losses and nailbiter wins against objectively bad teams. We should not be taking anything for granted, but this is very encouraging. We are appearing to be doing what we should be doing, and it's nice to see. The past two years or so I'm sitting around sweating out these early season cupcake games or seeing us be 7 point favorites over Quad 4 teams at home... looks like so far that ship has sailed and we will only get better!
