How are you feeling right now about the team and program?

We should resign to the fact Odom is gone after this year. It'll be good timing for him & the fans with the lose of virtually all of the offense. Perfect timing i'd say...it's going to be a rebuild year regardless. And Odom doesn't need to prove himself, per se. He's won at every college and he has NCAA experience.
Now ...will it be UVA or Wake?
That sounds like a Future HalfBakedMcBride problem....like in April

For now, I'm gonna hang my head outside the car window of life like a happy little doggie

This guy I was talking to is NOT convinced Odom will leave at the end of the season. Take that for what it's worth.
I'm not either. Will he leave for the right situation if it comes along this year? Yes, but he seems to me like a guys who makes strategic decisions and doesn't just jump at the first opportunity to come along. As much as he has history at both UVA and Wake, it's his father's history. I'm not sure either of those programs are what he's looking for. If I was a good mid-major coach that is sought after by P3,4,5s I'd look for one where there is a lot of football money to throw at the B-ball program but still a good b-ball tradition. I'd be looking SEC, not ACC.

Will we finally hire Rick Springman? (Someone help me on the name...)
Russell Springmann

Longtime Texas assistant, currently at Oral Roberts ( Shoutout to Korey Billbury )....not exactly killin it with an 18-35 record

Old timers remember Village Idiot Morrisar pushing REAL hard for Springmann...and then when SS struggled a bit in year 1, he just went on and on about how we should've hired "hot young assistant coach Russell Springmann"

Most of his opinions have aged like milk
I don't think he posts here, anymore

We especially need the A10 programs located in (Philly and RIC, multi-team core markets) to all step it up with pay and coaching retention of top-tier coaches. Truth is we need conf improvement. UR and other private schools in A10 need to put significant financial resources into men’s bb. If not, becoming a consistent multi bid league will be elusive on-going in the age of NIL. The A10 has many private (well funded endowments and/or alumni with deep pockets) schools who don’t appear to demand being top 50 ongoing. It’s a major reason we likely could be a one bid league again this year.

If I'm not mistaken, RO mentioned something about moving up a conference as one of the goals when he got here.

whatever happened to Morrisar?

If Im Ed and RO takes his staff to UVA then My short list, in no particular order would be:

Mike Jones
Mike Morrell
Jamal Brunt
Steve Curran

The VCU head coach position is a good job but coaches are leaving here fairly often for a reason. Money is likely the biggest factor but there are likely other factors such as wanting to challenge yourself to compete at a higher level. I hope RO stays but I don't feel that he came here to stay long.
I can see that changing with NIL and the transfer portal. Coaches in the P4 are getting fed up with the system, and the pressure to win is being escalated by NIL. Coaching jobs like VCU's pay decent and does not have nearly the stress P4 programs have now. Translation - The grass is not always greener on the other side.

I will be pleasantly surprised if Odom is still here next year just based on the fact that the A10 is pretty much a one - maybe occasionally 2 - bid conference these days and that does not look to change anytime soon. But that is gonna go how that goes and I am living in the moment and enjoying this season. Fingers crossed we continue to do well.

I feel better about vcu than Pitt likely does about their team. Pitt basketball is horrific this year. They are getting skunked at home by UVa. I wonder when Capel gets fired at Pitt. He has done NOTHING there. Wonder if they’ll offer Odom the head coaching gig?

There will be a lot more returning from the offense than many suspect ( I hope), read the news releases from the NCAA from last fall. Also, if we have a change coming once again, I strongly suspect we have already begun to addres that. VCU is not reactive as. a program, Ed is a proactive leader. Let's enjoy this year and let's just start by beating LaSalled- my focus.
