How are you feeling right now about the team and program?

I'll give you that. Comparatively, the 84-85 played an eons tougher schedule than '24-'25.

Then again, the 24-25 team would beat 84-85 team head to head. The 24-25 tesm would wear out the 84-85 7-deep team just like 1984-85 Louisville, Memphis St and Bama teams.

I just don't see Neil Wake keeping up with Clarke. I don't see Michael Brown and Don Franco handling Bamisile.

Schelgel can score around Fermin..no question.

Duncan and Lamb vs Shulga, Jackson, Russell are a push.
Comparing teams from different era head to head is kinda lame. The game is played so differently today than in the mid 80s.

No really. The Sun belt conference was the 1st conference to implement the 3 point line and 35 second clock line..so games is similar to today..if both teams are playing in conference rules.

I mean you could say conditioning is different.. if the 84-85 team had year round access to the BDC and coach roose?? Who knows..

According to college basketball reference.com they don't list 3pt stats until 1986-87 season.

But let's go with that season. In 86-87 VCU averaged 8.1 3pt attempts per game. This year we're averaging 28.4 attempts per game. 86-87 the team took a total of 250 3pts. This season Max and Joe alone have taken 324.

But the game hasn't changed? Stop it.

The basketball shorts were shorter in the 80's.

Go look at Calvin Duncan's stats!!

He took 28 3 ptrs in 82-83 and hit 57% of them!!

The Sun Belt Conference implemented the 3 point line for IN CONFERENE games before, the NCAA came later in 86-87.

I mean, cmon man, you of all people, the guy with all the vcu games should know this!

Look below..

You've got a 1982 VCU/ODU full game at the scope with the 3 pt line. It ain't the virginia Squires 3 pt line because ABA and NBA had already merged!

None of this changes the fact that the number of 3s taken in the 80s is not in the same universe as the number taken in today's game. That's the ultimate point.
