How are you feeling right now about the team and program?

A friend who knows him was telling me the other day that the PSU AD took 600K out of the basketball NIL for football. PSU's bball NIL is 2.6 million. He said that Rhoades took 300K of his own money to help fund the roster. Not sure if true but if it is then their basketball program is a disaster.
I do know most top CFB programs are 90 % then 8-10 % basketball. The rest get crumbles. PSU no doubt gives nothing to basketball. Other times like Bama, OSU, etc actually have programs that are competing so they get some money.

I liked Mike when he was at VCU and wanted him to succeed, but what made you “confident” that a coach who had 3 future NBA players on his roster (Bones, Vince, Watkins) and still produced a KP offense outside the top 100 in 2020-2021 would succeed at arguably one of the five worst power conference programs in CBB?
Maybe four - not sure if Hason Ward has seen any floor time outside of Boston's G League affiliate or not.

Following this season, is it possible four (4) former Rams' coaches could be walking the plank?

Capel, Grant, Smart and Rhoades?

Splash! Splash! Splash! Splash?

Wade and Odom seem safe from the hungry sharks.
I'm shocked Capel lasted this long, so I think this is the end of the road for him. I don't see one bad year ending Shaka's relatively successful tenure at Marquette. Grant may be Mooney 2.0. He's winning enough to keep his job but not enough to satisfy the fan base. Plus he's a Dayton alum. I see him retiring before being fired.

Rhoades? Who knows? With PSU apparently taking money from the basketball NIL to fund the football NIL, it may be an indication of how little they care about hoops and likely wouldn't want to pay Rhoades to go away. I'm leaning towards him staying unless he gets frustrated and resigns.

I take it you are National league fan. The DH rule has been in place since what (1970?)...56 years is a long time to hold an objection.

Doesn't the National league have the DH rule now?
I'm not sure how you made that leap. I have no issue with the DH. But if you're going to be considered for the HOF primarily as a DH, you need to put up DOMINANT offensive numbers (i.e. Jim Thome).

Dude played until he was 42 years old. Slow dripping hits over 22 years doesn't make you a hall of famer. You can't just look at career totals to determine hall of famers. Very lazy. Not to mention he spent over half his career not even playing the field as a full time DH.

Plus, if he was a "lock" why did he drop off the regular hall of fame ballot after only four years of being eligible getting less than 5% of the votes? He got elected because his former manger, his former team owner, and his former teammate was on the "Today's Game Era Committee" and got him elected.

I don't think you or DL want to engage in this discussion with me.
Wow. Did he pee in your Cornflakes or something?

What's his record overall? If memory serves, I think he signed a contract extension last year, am I right?

Since VCU coaches are generally quite young (sorry Sonny) when they arrive in Richmond, they're still young enough for RamNation second tours.

So ...

If Martelli, after leading the Rams to another nearly 30-plus win total, should leave for, let's say, Florida State or Penn State, VCU could start all over again with Capel.

Seems logical to me .... then Jeff would tear it up in the A10 and possibly get the vacant Mississippi State or Northwestern job .... and it would go on and on.

If Andruw Jones is in the hall of fame, Jim Edmonds belongs in the hall of fame. Change my mind.

I'm not gonna try to change your mind, Scuffy...they are very close in many aspects. Andruw's got him from a D standpoint and traditional counting numbers, Jim's got him in modern metrics and was, honestly, a better hitter than Jones overall.

Jone's has been mythized as "The Greatest CF Ever"....not sure I would go that far....Willie Mays has my vote by a country mile. But I suppose that helps. Doesn't help Jim that he's a bit of a dirtbag off the field with the wives and cheating and whatnot...but I DESPISE the hypocritical nature of sportswriters adjudicating morality in terms of The Hall...stop being a holier than though prick and just look at them as ballplayers.

If I was in charge?? Put in Jim and Kenny Lofton and Lou Whitaker and eject Mazeroski, PeeWee Reese, the 2 crappy Yankees Lazerri and Joe Gordon, and all of Frankie Frisch's little buddies

MLB HOF brings out a lot of emotions...I kinda love that. heck, the entire Cooperstown myth was built on a lie...what're ya gonna do

Also, sorry for the baseball diversion....I really tried to stay out of it

Feelin good about our Rams today!!! And I tried my hand at a Diamond Rams preview on the baseball subforum if anyone wants to take a gander

No, he's just a hall famer who doesn't deserve to be one. Why does pointing that out warrant the "pee in your cornflakes" comment?

But I have a better question for you: you referred to him as a "lock" hall of famer yet he got dropped off the regular ballot after only four years. Please explain? And I won't speculate what he may have done in your cornflake to earn such support.

Well, I think one of the bottom feeders may see him as a home run hire if they've gone the low cost assistant route several times unsuccessfully.
Home run? MR is no Harold Baines. Maybe good enough to take one of them from 6-10 to 8-8 in the A10. Hardly worth an extra million.

Keep the costs down, put on a game and sell some popcorn.

A coach who got his team to the dance three out of six seasons in the A10. A former A10 coach of the year. A coach with final four experience as an assistant. A coach with a 68% winning percentage while coaching in the A10. You think La Salle or Fordham has a snowballs chance of attracting another coach with that resume unless he's 80 years old?

If Coach Smart bottoms out at Marquette (and he seems to be approaching that) he will just have to come around and start working the portal. If he does I don't think they will have any problem giving him more time. His current recruiting strategy just isn't going to work anywhere these days.
