HOW DOES IT FEEL COACH GRANT?

First I'm hearing of it, and if it's true I'd have to agree with you. Generally, however, I like to get the facts from a credible source and not someone named artRAMinMN on a message board. I’m not trying to be rude or disrespectful, but there is always a lot of bitter feelings towards coaches when they leave so I’m not sure what’s fact vs fiction.

I heard those rumors that art heard, but I agree with you. The source was someone in a bitter athletic department that was just recently "dumped" by an "ex-girlfriend" at the time basically. At least that's how they acted towards the situation. I'm not sure the validity of the story, but there's also more too it.

I'm with you though. I'll give Grant the benefit of the doubt and everything I've seen with my own eyes screams "CLASS ACT" about the man.

I thought he was a classy guy as well. As to Eblen and even Larry to an extinct he can ask if they want to come but it just depends if he pressured them on not. Just like when a person takes a new position or creates a new company they sometimes try to get good people to come with them.

No big deal. Larry really didn't do anything for us last year anyway. He didn't improve his game either. It may have been better for Larry to tell his story walking. Who knows maybe Shaka gets a handle on the team quicker and we are dancing last year.

This doesn't mean that I don't think Larry was a talent. He was. He just didn't respond to or give Shaka the respect he deserved at all times and was a somewhat disruptive influence. We possibly would have been better slugging through with Kiril, and Jamie. Heck maybe Jamie develops a bit faster.

Come on man, you have been doing so well lately. He lead the team in scoring and rebounding. You said earlier this year that we were missing Saintil but you don't think that we would have missed Larry if he went to Alabama? Even if that outrageous statement was true that doesn't make it right for Grant to try to take him. If you go to a new company feel free to bring people with you, but in basketball once a player has signed with a school (verbals obviously mean nothing) or is playing for a school you quit recruiting them.

I wouldn't hate on Grant, but I do think its ironic he left us in part for greater at-large opportunities.

This was the only point I was making. I am NOT saying I don't appreciate Grant's contributions to VCU, but he left a mid major for the bigger stage of a BCS conference featuring Kentucky and two time champ, UF, and look what happened!

I think threads like this happen because during the rough stretches Grant's name was brought up by so many different people.

Grant could have avoided this.

When he was here at VCU, he'd get upset about P6 teams that refused home-and-home series with us. Now that he's at Alabama, he's flip-flopping. He refused a home-and-home series with UAB, instead opting to load up on SWAC teams and MAC bottom-feeders. It figures; he did not win a single non-conference game away from home.

Remember he flirted with Florida. He would have left, however circumstances changed. He was destined to leave.....Not a lot of sympathy....

I thought you had a great source and you knew it was a fact. Remember, you said he wanted to take Rozzell too. You're backing off of that?

I was thinking the same thing. Sure sounds like it. Brad's name was also thrown out there.

No, that's not the case.

13.1.1.3 Four-Year College Prospective Student-Athletes. An athletics staff member or other representative of the institution’s athletics interests shall not make contact with the student-athlete of another NCAA or NAIA four-year collegiate institution, directly or indirectly, without first obtaining the written permission of the first institution’s athletics director (or an athletics administrator designated by the athletics director) to do so, regardless of who makes the initial contact. If permission is not granted, the second institution shall not encourage the transfer and the institution shall not provide athletically related financial assistance to the student-athlete until the student-athlete has attended the second institution for one academic year. If permission is granted to contact the student-athlete, all applicable NCAA recruiting rules apply. (Revised: 1/10/91, 1/16/93, 1/11/94,
4/26/01, 4/29/04 effective 8/1/04)

If he did what some have said they know he did, then it was an NCAA violation. I'm assuming no permission was obtained and the part about no financial assistance for a year would seem to coincide with Ramified's previous statements about a snag being that the guys transferring would have had to pay their own way for a year and they couldn't get the in-state tuition rate.

After some of the bad losses this year and considering the investment made by Alabama, Grant probably needs to get in the dance next year and make a run or the proverbial "peanut gallery" will begin to shout. They are not known for their patience in Tuscaloosa.

Yeah, the Grant era in Tuscaloosa is definitely at the fork in the road.

I'm just glad that this bid will keep AG's fan off these boards, telling us how crappy we are and what a wonderful guy Coach Grant is.

Frankly, I thought they would be much better than they are.

For whatever reason, he isn't making much progress and it just goes to show that the grass isn't always greener on the other side which leads me to believe that one day one of the "new up and coming" coaches will come and stay here for the long term.
