Good read.

My parents died my last year in college. I married, had three kids, divorced, then remarried. I moved to northern Virginia and was selling stocks and bonds. My two eldest sons, Matt and Jim, said they did not want to go to college. I supported them 100 percent.

Instead, we used their college tuition to open a burger joint. Ocean City had 50 places selling boardwalk fries, but only one place always has a 150-foot line -- Thrashers. They serve nothing but fries, but they cook them right -- high-quality potato, peanut oil. That impressed me. I thought a good hamburger-and-fry place could make it, so we started with a takeout shop in Arlington, Virginia.

I never had them. I wanted to. They have a store in Pier park Panama City Beach. Along with margaritaville and etc. Hate those places.

Give them a try. You won't regret it.

Carytown Burgers & Fries is better

1 - not really comparable, different kind of restaurant really.

2 - but if you insist on comparing them, you're insane. five guys. hands down.

Both are restaurants that focus on selling Burgers and Fries (ok, so Carytown sells a few more things too). I've had them both, and grew up down the street from some of the earliest 5 guys. Carytown owns them (though 5 guys is good too). You haven't truly been a fatass 'til you've had Carytown's Barnyard Burger (chicken tenders, egg, and bacon top a delicious burger).

All that on top of a beef patty? I must try this Barnyard Burger you speak of.

I know most of what I hear (ok, read) about 5 Guys comes from 2 sources... you guys on here, and what-not-to-eat health articles ...seems like they are always listed.

So you KNOW it must be good.

Now I want 5 Guys.

Anyone can make money in the food business as long as you have a good product, reasonable price, and a clean place.

Yeah - that sums it up.

they have started to show up out here... one open in the Twin Cities and another coming soon... so I'll have to give them a try sometime. The problem for them is this market is not likely to be too friendly for them... we've already got local/regional favorites across the burger spectrum pretty well covered... the trendy new fancy burger places, the fierce loyalty-inspiring fast food type (Culvers and their butter burgers), and the old timey local speciality, the Jucy Lucy (cheese cooked inside the burger)

I went to Five Guys for the first time while going to VCU. No it wasn't RAMZ hall (although that is perfect for a pre-game carb load). It was the one in Chesterfield Meadows shopping center. And one year I went with the VCU RUF to Panama City, Florida I was shocked to see a Five Guys all the way down there. This article actually touches on that.

Look, Five Guys may be good, but I'll never know....

Stupid sesame seed buns.

The one time i did go there I asked if they had a seedless bun for my bacon, bbq, cheeseburger. They little girl went to check and a couple minutes later came back and assured me they did. So, I ordered and waited. Five minutes passes and they bring me my hamburger...chopped and diced into small pieces and put in a hot dog bun.

While I commend the girls creativity and problem solving on the fly, I didn't order no darn hot dog. I just asked for my money back and left. Sorta pissed me off at the time.

Why is it that everyone who serves burgers on sesame seed buns only have sesame seed buns?!? Is it that big a burden to have some plain buns?

*Rant over*

This post cracked me up for several minutes, then I realized it has all the elements of great comedy, including pathos.

Still laughing.

Could they have perhaps used two bun bottoms?
