It only takes a trip to a place like UR that reminds me of how phenomenal of a pep band we have. It was enough going to MSG and seeing a complete absence of any band except ours, but then I watched UR's pep band Sat night.
What a joke! There was all of 2 rows. The band stayed seated during the whole game. Their playing was very concert-like, where they show no emotion and simply stick to playing the music. It was very methodical and uninspiring. They are quiet enough, where they are miked. No improvisation or solos. The perfect pep band... when you want some easy listening to fall asleep to.
And yes, they get paid to be there. I don't think our pep band would need any payment or free sodas or any perks to show up and cheer on the rams.

TTL PKG: Thanks for all you do for our program and the members in our pep band!

Amen, this needs to be said again and again.

Best Pep Band, anywhere, ever, period.

Totally agree that our band blows away any band I've ever seen/heard.

Though I will say this, some of the guys in the UR Pep band are legit, darn good musicians. Check out Fight the Big Bull or No BS! Brass Band. Some of the guys are in those groups and they are phenomenal.

That said, I still take our band any day of the week.

I have been told by several folks in the know that the UofR Pep band is composed of VCU graduates. They are paid and they do what UofR wants them to do. Individually, they are very good. But what can you expect from a group when there are only 10 or so members. Having said that, I'll agree 100% with MarcusNation.

You are correct. Just a couple I believe. But those guys are great!

The band is great and the Band Leader is a cool dude. Why though did they move them up in the stands more? Kinda suck IMO. Let it loose the rest of the year... 8-)

I tell ya what I loved..

The band and cheerleaders dispersing through the aisles of the Stu and playing the VCU song. Love it.

All my friends that go to CAA schools absolutely hate our band because they say it gives us such an advantage. They're right, it does. Tell your tootin' monarchs/patriots/dukes/tribe to fix up then! :D ;)

VCU's Pep Band is a gift to our fans that "keeps on giving" throughout the year. Thanks guys for all you do. :D

I really can not thank you guys enough. Life is good for me and this band right now. There is so much stuff going on that most of you know nothing about but will in time! Most of which you guys may not have a bunch of interest in but the end result will be a bigger and better band.

The success of this band is DIRECTLY related to the support you guys give us. The praise we receive and the affirmation of our efforts provides the motivation and desire to keep the ball moving forward.

I hope that each of you will continue to support this group through any changes that may occur. Every decision I make I try to keep the best interest of this group and the AD in mind.

Along with your support I would be remiss if I didnt say yet again that the tremendous support that I get from the Athletic Dept is second to none. When you work for a department gives you so much credit and confidence it is truly a great feeling and one of the major reason I LOVE this niversity this team and this band. While I do not have free reign like some of you may think (and honestly the way I thnk sometime) they always hear my opinions and let me fight my thoughts to the end.

As far as UofR band is concerned.... I have said it once I will say it again.... They as a pep band leave a bit to be desired. As musicians I can not say enough. I urge each one of you to search No BS Brass Band. They as a pep band are mostly VCU grads and mostly ex vcu pep band members. While I am not a fan of their pep band I am a HUGE fan of their personal bands and we even play a few of their songs.
