The Positive moving forward
1.) I don't want coach Smart fired he has a great basketball mind
2.) Our team will be much improved next season
3.) Everyone on the squad plays with HEART and a lot of it (UVa benched Mike Scott for having none of this so we should consider ourselves lucky not to have to worry about that)
4.) The fans are insane even though I would not call myself a Rowdy ever
5.) Its college athletics its crazy! UNC has so much more talent than us and their at .500
6.) We already have an NBA player a first round pick nonetheless
7.) We also dont have huge men taking their shirts off at games like ODU
Stay Classy VCU 8-)

Great post. I know we lost the game, but we showed a lot of fight. I was extremely proud of what the team did this weekend. I think I am going to hang onto that feeling and not worry so much about the bitching and the moaning on the other threads. Although we have 9 losses and have struggled on the road we have had a chance to win very late in the game nearly every time we have played aside from the @NU and @WMU games which started to get out of reach about 3/4 of the way though. Hate to even bring them up, but last year UR lost a lot of close games, this year they are winning those close games and seem to be tourney bound. The fight that we have shown this year and the never say die attitude will pay off.

I agree 100%. I, too, am proud of our players. They have a great attitude; they work hard; they showed us a lot of guts. Next year we can build on the 21 wins of this year. Furthermore, I think our coach is great. As he relates with the team players, he will continue to develop and hone his coaching skills. We are blessed with young developing freshmen and a host of incoming freshmen who will complement our juniors and seniors next year. We already know that we will be in the pre-season NIT. Greatness is yet to come. Years from now we will look back with great fondness and say, "not a perfect year but certainly a good year." Thanks guys for all the your hard work, for all the great wins, and, certainly , for all you did for Virginia Commonwealth University--a university about to achieve greatness.

I may be creepy, but at least I keep my clothes on

I too love these guys, this team, these fans, the band, the dance team, cheerleaders, administration and everything about VCU basketball (and really, the whole school in general). I am extremely proud to say that I am associated with Virginia Commonwealth University.

That was hilarious/disturbing at the same time. Agree with VCU Finance, Pav and ram4life regarding the love and support for the players, program and University. The effort that all the players left on the court cannot be overlooked but admired and even though the team chemistry was not all there this year, it is only a stepping stone of what's to come. I'm looking forward to next year's recruiting class and supporting our Rams through the UPS and DOWNS.

It is interesting to see how crazy the expectations are for some of us for a first year coach. Deservingly so, our program is growing and it comes with the territory. IMHO I think Shaka did just fine and I can't wait to see how he grows from this year's experience.

This is currently the best post tournament post yet. I am proud of the program and what we(the program) accomplished as both an alum and a fan. In many sports, people refer to the "good lost". The program is not the next Gonzaga and does not need to move to another conference....yet. However, if anything can be used to help bridge that gap, it is this season. I am sure that as upset as some of the fans are, the coaching staff and players are as equally upset. Based on the strong character of individuals the program is developing, none of them will let that feeling happen again next year. Strength comes from adversity and we will be much stronger next year.

Just a another thing in the food for thought category. All of the other CAA schools are not going to just sit around and let VCU dominate the CAA year after year. Just ask my also beloved Steelers(more superbowls than anyone) how it is when you have the target on your back........... 8-)

I know I was disappointed after some of the games this year, but heck who wasn't? This is a good team and VCU has made remarkable strides in the past few years. If we make the NIT this year, which I think we will, that will be four consecutive years of legit post season play. If you told most of us that we'd be in this situation 5 years ago we all would have taken it and been really happy. It's not easy to build a program to the point where you're playing for NCAA tournament appearances on a regular basis, especially when you play in the CAA. I'm proud of everyone that's been associated with the success over the past few years and can't wait to see what the future holds.

the next Gonzaga

Ban the above quoted phrase, "Gonzaga of the East", and all other derivatives. I'm sick and tired of hearing about Gonzaga.

VCU of its own volition has become a perennial mid-major power, the likes of which other mid to low major programs aspire to become. We compete for and want to win championships here at VCU. The season we're not in the mix is the lowest common denominator that everyone can agree on for disappointment. Continue to do your part to improve the program, show up to games and cheer loud, donate money, and love this team (program)! All of that helps.

We can all agree that there is much more greatness to achieve. Consistency in winning and consistency in support during losses is how we will get there. Everything else will fall into place. Recruiting, sponsors, attendance, donations, facilities, you name it. I for one pledged to increase my donation by 10% this year, and the next time I get called, I will gladly make that pledge again (offer good for only one call per year  ). I will say hi to the recruits, I will pick up that piece of the trash on the floor that everyone is kicking at the Seigel Center, and I will come to the games and cheer loud. We ask the players to do the little things, so let's do the little things to show them the love, too.

Rock on, VCU

After the sun actually rose this morning I too am proud of this team. Before we talk about next year let's remember there is still basketball to be played. Hopefully we will have something akin to the fan support demonstrated this past weekend.

Great thread. More ball to came. Let's hope for a home game.

Some advice- If we stop responding to the trolls out there they will stop posting. From this point forward I'm not even going to respond.

Go Rams.

You mean John Kruk? I seriously think that was John Kruk in ODU gear. He had a light blue blazer on and an ODU football shirt underneath his blazer.

This team will be fine next year. You want to talk about a kid that puts every ounce of energy, emotion, passion, and effort into every possession, look no further than Joey Rodriguez. That kid maximizes his ability and potential on every trip down the floor, offensively and defensively. He is a warrior. If Larry Sanders played with half the heart and desire that Joey Rodriguez plays with, Larry would dominate.

Go Rams.

Very proud of this season and this team. When we work out a couple of the late game kinks, we are going to be so dangerous next year. We are going to have an insane group of seniors and have the chance to do a lot of awesome things against several CAA teams that will be going through "rebuilding" years. Northeastern is losing 4 starters, William and Mary losing 3, ODU losing Lee and Neely. There is a lot to look forward to next year and I cant wait.

I agree with your desire to ban the reference. My reason for using it was only a tie to all those that hope we would be someone or something else. I completey believe that with our continued support, the program will be an independent national major program and not a mirror image of some other program

Except they all respond to each other and it makes it appear that they respresent the fan base.
