One of the most memorable players from the 2011 NCAA Tournament is undoubtedly VCU's versatile 6-foot-9 big man, Jamie Skeen. With a picture-perfect jump shot, an ability to shoot over defenders and a willingness to bang and battle in the paint, Skeen was a big reason why the Rams were able to make a run for the title.

While still only ranked No. 77 on Chad Ford's Big Board, Skeen's eye-opening tournament may have helped turn him into a legit NBA prospect.

"Skeen was not ranked in our top 100 coming into the NCAA tournament," Ford wrote earlier this week. "The 22-year-old Wake Forest transfer was pretty much an afterthought this year. His averages of 15 ppg and 7 rebounds per game weren't going to wow anyone, not at his age and in the conference he was playing in.

"But Skeen was special in the tournament and saved his best for last: a 26-point, 10-rebound outburst against Kansas' NBA-sized front line and 27 points against Butler in the Final Four."

"Skeen's a true inside-outside player. He battles for position in the paint and he can let it fly from 3-point range. He's not going to be a lottery pick, but he's moved from certain free agent to a legit shot at getting drafted -- either in the late-first round or the second round."

This wouldn't shock me one bit. The up-side to his game on an NBA roster is easy to see. He's got some work to do on his defensive game, but lucky for him, there isn't much of that being played in the Association.

The guy played great against the best college players in the country. Butler had no answer for him. He made them look silly on a couple occasions. We should have kept going to him inside until they proved they could stop him.

I would be so excited to see jamie playin in the nba...and if he is a first rounder....3 years in a row? That would be crazy!

That would be a great recruiting tool for the coaches to have going into the living rooms of potential recruits. We also have Bradford Burgess waiting in the wings for his shot, and I heard his name bandied about even this season as a potential draftee for next year. He was already on some people's minds.

Hopefully, three-in-a-row will bring the scouts back on a regular basis to the Seigel Center and following the Rams on the road. This will raise our profile and help the league as a whole.

Skeen's gonna tear it up at the PIT, though. That's his next career development move. :)

also, sort of ot but saturday night after the game, I walked into Cheesecake factory just about the same time Skeen did. He was eating with his family so before I left I just went over to his table and told him how proud of him we were. And yes we lost today but man you guys made school history by going to the sweet sixteen. You guys have accomplished so much. I really hope this guy gets a shot at the nba.

Are we sure he's playing? His name was listed yesterday, but not today.

Yeah, I just saw that in the other thread. Who knows at this point.

If Skeen gets drafted in the first round or in the second and makes the cut that would be unreal. He would certainly be deserving, but he wasn't even on the radar to get drafted before the tournament. We knew Eric and Larry would go, they had scouts looking at them all season long. A month ago I was hoping he would get a spot on a summer league team and maybe work his way up from the D-League or overseas to the association. Sending a player 3 years in a row would be crazy, and don't forget that we still have Mike Anderson and Shu out there from the 2008 class trying to get in as well.

If we could get 3 first rounders in a row that would give us some sho-nuff bragging rights in the league and in the state. I wish the best for Jamie and all of the seniors..... :ugeek: :ugeek: :ugeek:

I could easily see Jamie sneaking into the 1st round. This isn't a deep class and his game seems custom made for the NBA. He has an NBA body, moves very well, isn't afraid to bang down ,ow but can be so deadly from outside that teams would have to respect his shot. And if a 6'8" player of his build can draw the other team's bigs outside to defend, it opens up things inside. I hope this happens, and more than that, I think there is a chance it will!

Jamie Skeen 6-9 240 PF VCU Fr.

Skeen got a chance to showcase his skills on the biggest stage and despite VCU going down, he had a tremendous showing with 27 pts on 10-17 shooting.

He has pulled out of PIT, with good reason. He's likely tired after playing 6 games in the tournament and really doesn't need to showcase himself any further after playing so many games in front of scouts during the tournament.

He should have an excellent chance to get drafted after showing excellent shooting ability, and clutch play in the tournament.

LOVE TO SEE A RAM IN THE PROS.... But was not a fan of this section of the quote. Does not bode well for our conference. you are average playing against average in their eyes..Nobody willing to look at you in the conference unless you are a stand out. Only then will they come, evaluate and read between the stat lines.
