Since it's summer(almost) and there is not a great deal to talk about other than recruiting I thought I would throw out some tidbits with respect to Jamie. I think this is germane since I consider him to be part of the incoming recruiting class.

In Scout.coms final rankings for 2006 they had Jamie as a 4-Star recruit and the #54 rated national recruit. They listed him as a 6'8.5" 215lb. PF who could play above the rim or hit the outside jumper. Their assessment should be worth something as Dave Telep saw him play numerous times because of the Carolina connection.

I happend to see Jamie play during his Junior year when his team(North Mecklenburg) edged Eric Maynors team to win the Carolina 5-A State Championship at the Dean Dome in Chapel Hill. Both Eric and Jamie put on quite a show, but Jamie was named MVP since his team pulled out a win at the very end. Jamie was quite impressive and definitely demonstrated that he could play both with his back to the basket and hit the outside jumper. He also had some thunderous dunks going well above the rim. Of course since that time he has put on a substantial amount of weight.

The coaches will readily tell you of his outstanding talent and fine skill-set, but Jamie needs to be consistent. As a prep that was the only issue with him. He started his Frosh year at Wake and had some double-doubles so he can be a real impact player in the CAA if he comes to play every night. He is not your typical CAA recruit. Hopefully after sitting out a year he will come in hungary. If he does, look-out folks. We could really have a scary good front court!

I totally can not wait to see him in action..... and man- with Skeen up front with the Landlord..... holy Moses. That should be some serious fun to watch next year. I can't wait. Is it November yet?? :geek:

Potential sounds awesome but I expect his time off from actively playing in game stuations will result in some up and down games; I hope I am wrong and that he can jump in and take over a starting position and contribute consistently right away. He has the physical tools and a team that can use his skills. He will have to outplay and show that he deserves to start over KP and Santil who are not going to roll over and hand their playing time to him w/out some serious battles at practice.

That's what you've got to love about this front line. Four big, strong, talented guys that can push each other in practice and hopefully get it done in a big way in real-time!

I can't remember which interview it was in but a couple of our players were quoted to say that Jamie will be our best player next year.

Just a couple of questions regarding Jamie for anyone who can answer

Any idea what his body weight is looking like these days? How athletic and agile is Jamie going to be given his current size and weight? Is he going to fit into the full-court style of play VCU will be running under Smart? Anyone had a chance to watch Jamie (or Gavin for that matter) pratice anytime recent?

Both Skeen and Gavin came to VCU to play for Coach Grant and the up tempo style that VCU has adopted. So I would assume that they know what is expected of them physically. Also, Gavin has been practicing with the team for a year now and Skeen joined the team last December and has been practicing for 6-7 months. If they weren't in shape before I am sure they are now.

I am more worried about the conditioning of Theus and Daniels, as there is no way their high school conditioning was as rigorous as it will be at VCU. But they will have 4 months to work on getting into shape assuming they will be with the team starting now and through the summer into the fall.

One of the comments was...

Gerald Lee >>>>>>>>>>>>> Skeen

I'm lookin' forward to that particular game.

I think getSmart hit the nail on the head. Both Jamie and Jay were well aware of VCU's style of play. Both knew they were joining a program that was up-tempo in nature, so I think they will be prepared. I'm sure both will have to shake off the rust to some extent, but hopefully that will happen prior to the conference games commencing.

I can tell you this - Jamie is a big-time talent with an excellent skill-set. Once he shakes off the rust and gets acclimated to our system he will challenge for a starting position IF he plays hard consistently. If he makes that commitment he certainly has an opportunity to be ALL-CAA before he concludes his career. In my mind it's upto Jamie!

Oh my gaawd. That youtube vid is nice. Man.... I am so jacked up already that I can't stand it. This could be a heck of a fun fall.... and winter!
