I'm with rick....I still think a fade is coming for the tribe....though I am still VERY impressed with what they have accomplished so far!

don't matter
we owe them a azz whipping (hopefully on TV).

They are pretty good, but they are all guard-based and I suspect that will cost them at times. They are also winning close games now, which won't all go their way down the stretch. They'll take some losses in the CAA for sure. That said, they are perhaps the most well-coached, disciplined team in the league. They have to be, because they don't have any athletes.

My prediction...we are going to kick the crap out of them in the Stu. Also, get out and get your tickets now so they don't suck up any that would otherwise go to VCU fans.

W&M close games:

Hampton by 1(bad)
@Radford by 2(not bad)
VCU by 1(not bad)
Loss @Harvard on a half-court shot in triple OT(not a bad loss)

Record: 3-1

VCU:

@Tulane by 1(bad)
URI by 2(not bad)
(Could make the case for ECU being a close game since you were losing with 3 mins left, but I'll be generous)
Loss @WM by 1

Record: 2-1

So we've played one more close game than you and won it. I don't think we're getting as lucky as you think, especially since W&M had the lead on the last possession of all 4 games and only lost because a prayer fell in one of them. That isn't getting lucky IMO, and considering our SOS is 15 while yours is 34 I don't think it's really fair to say we've been getting lucky with our close wins.

(BTW sorry for hanging around here so much, but the quality of discussion here is much much better and more consistent than the zone)

A thousand times this!

Ill agree with Rambunctious on the W&M team being the best coached team in the league. They have patience and discipline on the offensive end and enough shooters to hit the 3ball when their offensive sets don't provide the easy layup.

That being said they are probably one of the least athletic teams in the league and I think will struggle mightily if they hit a streak of games where their outside shots don't fall. They are currently over 40% AS A TEAM from beyond the arc, they will struggle to keep that pace. They are also taking about half their shots from beyond the arc, if they hit a dry spell they will lose those top 25 votes in a hurry because outside of kitts and sumner they dont have much of a presence in the paint.

Kaplan you are certainly welcome anytime...you always contribute a lot to any discussion. Again...I certainly respect what you guys have accomplished thus far and I have always been a Tony Shaver fan....any UNC guy is a good one in my book!

8-) Glad to see somebody gets it. Kaplan you're always welcome here.

W&M being good is great for us. Instead of being a RPI-killer it becomes an opportunity to play another good team. Having the Tribe 45 minutes a way, our games can be well-attended by both fanbases. It would give us another guaranteed sellout (in addition to the Mason and ODU games) at the Stu. It helps the CAA, our strength of schedule and RPI. It's a win-win all around. I hope it (being their recent success) continues.

Having Austin Shaver around the VCU program we know that the Shaver's are a great basketball family and even better people. I will never wish ill for Tony and hope the Tribe has continued success unless they play us.

That said, January 20th has been circled on VCU's calendar for sure. We're going to have to continue the 'VCU Home Revenge Tour' into the conference slate for at least one more game on the 20th. We're 4-0 (Oklahoma, Rhode Island, Nevada, East Carolina) and were going to make it 5-0 with W&M on the 20th. 8-)

If the Tribe continues at their torrid pace, we might just see William & Mary playing Butler in the Bracketbuster in February. :shock:

I have now watched Bill & Mary play twice (entire game vs. VCU and first half of game vs. Maryland). I have to say I am impressed with what they are getting done on the court. While they may not have the athletes that other programs have, they are extremely well coached and smart in their approach to the game. Against MD in particular, it was striking to me how well they pass the ball quickly and accurately to negate any speed/athleticism advantage their opponent might have. I think the key to beating them is to keep the pressure on for the entire game like we did in the first half and the last 4 minutes and to deny some of the passing lanes. And that is easier said than done.

I would love to see a strong rival between William & Mary and VCU started. I have two degrees awarded from the Richmond Professional Institute of the College of William and Mary (1959 and 1961). I am proud that both names are on my degrees. The only better wording would be Virginia Commonwealth University. I have always rooted for W & M except when they play VCU (I have to admit that I was neutral when they played the University of Maryland where I got my third degree!). Class team, class coach W & M.

Thats so cool.

I agree with the good Doctor. Which by the way, do you remember the spirited games we used to have with W&M back in the early 80's? They were always tough games against the Tribe!

PS: Who did you root for when VCU played Maryland? ;)
