Jason West

he looks good and has great size for a 2 guard, but were pretty packed at that position as it is.

Sure we do, if Rozzell is made into a point guard and Brad starts at small forward. He could also play small forward.

What are you guys smoking? We don't need another shooting guard right now, we need a 2nd true PG. Rozzell doesn't have a great handle - - if I were coaching against a team that had Rozzell at PG I would press him all game long and get lots of turnovers. Rozzell's specialty is shooting, and he is coming off the bench for that - - what makes us think he would start as the PG, when ballhandling is not his forte?

We had Maynor at pointguard, why would he come in the game for that. Joey was a turnover machine and he was a pointguard when Maynor wasn't in.

Not many of us were comfortable with Joey at the point this year either - - and he was a much better ballhandler than Rozzell. Don't get me wrong, I like Brandon's game, but I don't see him being the distributor. Seriously, his decision making as Soph. was questionable at times and that was when he only had to decide if/how to shoot. Imagine if he has to run the entire offense and dish - - he hasn't shown the decision making or handling skills for that role. Give it to the rookie if he is ready.

You can give it to the rookie even with Jason West there. We need small forwards as T.J. is graduating and Ndongo doesn't fit the role as a full time starter. West is 6-6.

I don't see it. Obviously, we'll offer one of the scholarships to a PG. I believe we should offer the other to a PF. We'll lose KP next year and possibly Sanders. If that should happen, I'd be very concerned about our size in '10/'11.

I was never really a fan of Joeys ball handling skills, but to give credit to JRod, he had a lower TO's per 40 minutes than Maynor throughout each ones career.

Saintil and Skeen, I think that's pretty good big bodies down low.

I agree, we are solid at the two spot. But, truth be told, aren't we in need of our first true PG? Theus looks solid, and a Maynor endorsement is golden in my book, but he is a combo guard. I would rather him be our back up PG to a guy who is built/trained to play the 1 spot. That is something we don't have....yet. But I have every belief in my body that Coach will get us straight for our first game. Anyone out there agree?

Don't have any background info on him, maybe that's why I haven't heard anything mentioned about it.

West went to Woodbridge his freshman year with UVA commit Tristan Spurlock. He got caught up with the wrong kids and got into some trouble there and subsequently had to leave Woodbridge. He tried a private school in Jersey or somewhere in the northeast but ended up finishing his soph school year from home in Woodbridge. He played AAU with the DC Blue Devils and went to Florida Air Academy at the beginning of his Jr. year. He had a tough time adjusting to the environment and had to go through a position change playing in the post his first year there. Being a SG/SF, this was a tough adjustment for him. His jumper isn't consistent enough to be a SG in the CAA, but he would be a solid SF/wing since he has the ability to handle the ball. He has had a lot of past attitude issues due to his immaturity, perhaps he has grown out of it, but there are red flags there. He averaged about 15 ppg this year, but it was on a pretty good team in FAA with Eblen and Kumaine Osborne who are all D1 level talents. He could certainly play for us from a basketball skills standpoint and being from Northern Virginia would probably give us an edge in his recruitment. Last I checked it was us and Marshall giving interest, but apparently a school in Texas wants him to come down this weekend. Not sure which one it is. A number of schools have backed off because of his attitude and his coach isn't going to lie to cover up his past issues. There you have it. I hope that's enough background info. :)

If he got in trouble by hanging out with the wrong crowd while living in Virginia, perhaps he shouldn't come back to Virginia for college, but stay in an environment away from bad influences in his life.
