The guy hasn't played the last two games so I'm going to go out on a limb and say he's a goner. I would assume he's why we signed Toby Veal. Since the semester hasn't academically begun, should he sit out the remainder of the season... would he gain an extra semester of eligibility?

I think it's premature to pack Jay off campus just yet, but I can certainly see where you're coming from.

As for his eligibility, since he used up a year sitting out transferring already, I think the only way he might be able to stop the clock again is via something like an injury redshirt, and I'm not even sure that would work.

I wouldn't say it's set in stone yet that he's transferring, but there's something to be said when David Hinton goes into the game and we're up 22 points with no sign of Gavin. It's sad to think about with the fact he sat out all of last year and how highly anticipated of a player he was coming out of Marist. Speaking of lack of PT, I was glad to see T.J. gets some minutes tonight. I guess that may be a sign he's no longer in the doghouse. It cracked me up tonight with his pump fake and no one around directly under the basket...

Yeah, I was cracking up too. For some reason my first reaction was to whip my head around and see how Banana was reacting, but I couldn't see him through the crowd. Hilarious though.

ASSUME= AS$ out of U and ME

Andy give it a break. Let's let the coaches decide who stays and goes.

his reaction to grayson and hinton going in tonight before him was definitely a bummer. Ive still got faith in the kid but Im not sure how much he even has left in himself. Jay youre still the shooter and player that we recruited and know that you can be.

Speculation isn't a crime and I'd hate to see him leave. Who is to say it's not his choice if he WERE to leave? The guy seemed to be in the spotlight at Marist and maybe he's just not used to the depth we have here at VCU. He hasn't shown much spark, but he's only a sophomore. I think if we gave him some more time, he could really be something special.

He was just padding his stats. He is already VCU's all time pump fake leader by a wide margin though.

I would not put anything into Jay not going in at the end...it was a move to take out our better players and starters...Jay was a starter and should be one of our better players so I am not too surprised he would not go in at that moment...more of a statement Theus and Daniels got minutes during the game and he did not more than that....

But as already said...not our place...let the coaches handle it and let's focus on the guys playing and support them....

I think it is a moot point since Jay has already redshirted a year, but IF he was planning on transferring he would already have to be at his new school before the start of the semester in order to not lose any eligibility. The way Jamie Skeen did last year, he didn't play the first semester while he was at Wake and lost that eligibility, but sit out for a year at VCU and used his redshirt year. I believe you can't play in more than 20% of the games in order to qualify for a medical redshirt so that would be out of the question as well. Coach smart sent a big message by not playing him in the past two games, especially since everyone else checked into the game tonight. Hopefully he will be motivated to work his way back into the rotation. I hope he sticks with it.

well if he did leave he would have to go to D2 to play next year and save a year of eligibility. if he went to another d1 he would sit another year and lose that year of eligibility i believe.

Jay is a sophomore who's posted some great games against some serious competition in his career.

I also know he's gone through something a lot harder than not getting much PT on a basketball team.

I have all the confidence in the world that he'll put in the work to bounce back, earn those minutes everyone is fighting for, and have us talking about what an amazing comeback story Jay Gavin is.

Understandable, but what was the reasoning in the Georgia State game for him not going in? I'm not trying to stir the pot here, but rather just make sense of signing three recruits for next year when we only have two graduating seniors on the team. I know there is the possibility of Larry entering the draft after the season, but I wouldn't think we'd go ahead and sign another player with the chance of Larry returning unless Shaka knows something that we don't. I would think that we'd plan as if Larry was to return and should things turn out differently, either sign a transfer (and you know there will be plenty following the season) or sign a last minute recruit.

again...he has not signed the recruit...it is just a verbal...major programs over recruit all the time...
verbals come and go all the time...we do not know what coach told him or what he told coach...
just trust the staff and see what shacks out over the summer...
