JMU HOLDS ON FOR 53-51 MEN’S BASKETBALL WIN OVER UMBC

HARRISONBURG, Va., Nov. 28, 2009 – Sophomore Julius Wells (Toledo, Ohio/Libbey) led all players with 18 points and James Madison held off a late charge by Maryland-Baltimore County to pick up a 53-51 non-conference victory Saturday evening at the Convocation Center.

JMU picked up its third straight victory to improve to 3-2 on the season. The Dukes won their fourth straight home opener and defeated the Retrievers for the fifth time in six all-time meetings. UMBC fell to 0-5 for the season.

JMU’s largest lead of the game was nine at 52-43 with 2:39 remaining. However, UMBC scored four unanswered field goals, including a pair by Robbie Jackson, to cut the margin to one at 52-51 with 33 seconds remaining. The Dukes committed turnovers on three straight possessions during the run.

this is surprising to me. I know they lost Devon Moore but I really thought they would be a top 5 or 6 team. Its early so we'll see.
