What we are lacking and need most is a leader. It is clearly evident that our team's leader at home is the crowd yet on the road they are simply by themselves and unable to work together.
There's a thread below me that says Larry should rally the troops, yet I feel Larry is not a leader and never will be for the VCU basketball team. For me, Joey is our leader, in the paper today he said he hates losing more than he likes winning. This needs to be the VCU basketball attitude.

Joey has the most heart and probably has been told his entire life that he will never be a "good" basketball player because of his size. He needs to be the emotional leader for this team. He needs to rally this team and lead them to victory. I believe in number 12 and I know he has been hesitant up to this point to lead this basketball team. He needs to assume the role, gather the players together and get the players to play as a team for 40 minutes. Lead this team to victory, Joey!

Now this I can agree with. Joey has been banged up all season, but has never quit. This past spring Joey wanted to move back home to Florida but his teammates wouldn't let him quit. Now it is time for Joey to return the favor. He is just the man to do it. This TEAM can lose on Friday or they could win on Monday. Nothing is outside of the realm of possibilities at this point. I'll be there watching either way.

Well said from both of you. Folks on this board lose sight of the fact that as disappointed we are now, and rightfully so, we really need to see an entire body of work to pass judgment. Some people will feel like a horses butt abandoning a team towards the end of the season if they go onto get an auto bid. Come on everybody we all know this team is capable of winning and is underachieving, lets have faith in the program that we can put it together when it really counts, because don't kid yourselves we were not at large material this year anyways, due to said lack of on court leadership and the installation of new coaching staff.

This IS Joey's team. He needs to start taking names and kicking ass.

This is the time for Joey to step up. He knows he's the heart, he knows he's the soul of this team, and he knows he can lead this team to victory. I see that we are so close from breaking down this wall and truly become a great basketball team. All the pieces are there. We need a leader now. Take over, Joey.

"Leaders aren't born they are made. And they are made just like anything else, through hard work. And that's the price we'll have to pay to achieve that goal, or any goal."
-Vince Lombardi

Joey Rodriguez over the past few weeks has lead the team in scoring, assists, A/TO, min played, steals, and then today he goes out and leads the team in rebounding. I wouldn't be surprised if he drove the darn bus home from Norfolk and tucked everyone into bed. No doubt he is a star, in 8 days he very well could be a superstar. Let's hope he is able to stay healthy, but he will be a handful for opposing teams either way.
